I too am a former employee of Country Acres Kennels. Where do I start? I saw poor conditions each day while working there, and like another person here I was young and didn't realize that I should have taken action at the time to get this place shut down. Training dogs were choked into submission in order to make them obey. The people were mean and unpleasant to work for. The small dog room has dried feces/urine stains in the corners of the cages. Many times dogs would come home sick. I once saw a dog get stuck in a trench out in a play yard. He was out in the heat for an hour or two as I waited with him, trying to get him unstuck, and making sure he had water. The owners of the facility seemed to take the situation lightly and took their time and did not want to have to pay for a vet to come out even though the dog nearly died. I also saw a dog become so dehydrated that he was on the floor and we thought he was dead. Again, the owners of country acres kennels are cheap and did not want to have to pay for a vet to come help the dog. Thankfully, these dogs turned out ok in the end. I only worked at this doggy hell for a month, and saw all kinds of cruelty and poor health conditions, so I cannot imagine how many dogs have died there and suffered for the many years it has been around. Don, the owner was an unpleasant and racist man. Lisa, the training director was verbally abusive and treats the dogs and employees the same, harsh and needing to be "fixed". This place is a pets worst nightmare. The health department needs to investigate at least.

I have never seen anything of the sort

I took my out of control rescue dog to CAK about a year ago to get some help. Lisa and the staff could not have been more cooperative and basically saved my dogs (and mine) life. He has gone through the basic and now advanced training classes and is now a perfect pup. I have also continued to take him to doggie day care almost daily as he loves it there. During the past year, I have had full, unrestricted access to the facility anytime at all. I make several surprise trips to the kennel and have never witness any of the things listed here. They have always had the dogs well being foremost in their actions and have always treated me, and most importantly my dog with respect.

One of the best kennels around

I have been a customer of CAK since I moved to Texas about a year ago. They took my 100lb out of control rescue dog and completly turned him around in a very short time. The owners and staff were personally involved in all of the training and day to day activities. During his training, daycare, and boarding which I continue to this day I make unannouced trips to the Kennel several times every week (sometimes more than once a day) and have yet to find anything remotely questionable occuring to any of the animals. I have had full access, and have been welcomed to look at any part of the kennel at any time. To this day, everyone at the kennel has treated me, an most importantly my dog, with respect. We are made feel like part of a family. Their committment extends far beyond just a business.

Can't say I've seen anything alleged in this report...

I am a fairly recent customer of Country Acres Kennel in Arlington and I have to say that without knowing more information or having specific evidence to back up the allegations made here, I would have to disagree with some of the statements made here. I have been coming to CAK since March when I first took my puppy there for CAK's beginner in-kennel obedience training. While my puppy was there, she maintained a healthy weight. Yes, she got a little rowdy looking, but she was hanging outside, playing outside, rough-housing with other dogs every day, so I'd expect that she'd get a little dirty. The kennels though were for the most part clean, and I didn't see any suffering or sick dogs lying around. Every time I dropped my puppy off I was able to walk through the entire facility and there was never a moment of hesitation on behalf of the staff of the owners of the kennel when I walked back there. I have to say that I can't believe what this person is alleging. What I consider most convincing is the fact that my puppy simply adores every trainer that she's worked with at CAK. From Lisa, the training director and owner's daughter, on down, my pup sees one of her CAK trainers and she jumps for joy - she lights up and starts wagging her tail and gets just to happy to see her friends. She's a big dog, but kind of delicate, and friends of mine who have just yelled at her can scare her into a corner. So, I am pretty confident that if she responds this positively to the trainers and staff at CAK then she's never been abused or mistreated. The positive reaction she displays whenever she sees Lisa and everyone there just convinces me that this person must be lying. I'm sure that there are many more former employees of CAK and current and past CAK customers who are online and have reviewed this report. If you have anything to contribute to this discussion, please post so that people can know the truth about CAK. My truth is that it is a very positive place that takes good care of my puppy. Please post what you know...

False Accusations and Report

#5UPDATE Employee

Thu, May 08, 2008

I am a long term employee (over 10 years) of Country Acres Kennels and am part of the management team. The accusations presented in this report are totally false. First, the kennel has not had an employee by the name of Hallie as long as I have been here. Second, I believe this report was generated by an employee who was terminated at about the same time as the filing of the report. Country Acres Kennels is one of the largest boarding and training facilities in the US. They allow and encourage customers to go with us to the dog's run when they drop off the dogs and when they pick up. They see the whole kennel. In addition, perspective clients take tours Monday thru Saturday and see the entire kennel. If these things that "Hallie" reported were true, the kennel would not be in business for over 36 years and have an excellent reputation with the Better Business Bureau. It is sad that some people have to turn to lies to make themselves feel good. There is an additional report given here with nearly the same lies. We invite perspective customers to visit and compare and not believe the false accusations of terminated employees.
