Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My name is Peter. I am a former employee of Applied Card Systems, a.k.a. cross country bank. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not a disgruntled employee. It is just that when I read about the ethics of this company, I feel partially responsible. So I am going to tell you the way it is. You may not believe me, but here it is. CCB is a gentleman from Boca Raton, FL. In my opinion, it is nothing more than a loan shark operation. This company preys upon people who have moderate to bad credit, charging interest rates as high as 26.99. Now here's how it works. CCB makes the most of its money not from the payments, but from the $7 charge that they get from convincing someone to pay over the telephone.

Collections agents are literally given classes on how to be deceptive in order to get the customer to the phone.

Once they have got the customer on the phone, they use what amounts to scare tactics by sayings such as third party collection, arbitration court, and breach of contract. Sometimes when a customer asks for a supervisor, they are simply turned over to another collector. CCB has 5 call centers. Each handles a different rate of late accounts, going by how many months they have been late. My former site is used mainly to work people who are 60 days late and over. They will call as many as 10 times per day. They will probe children for questions such as "What is your mother/father's work phone number".

Now, here's what to do the next time they call you. Ask for Brian Collins or Arron Williamson or Ron Hill or Leo Roncho. These are the only ones who really have control over your account. They control the collectors and what they say. Funny enough, you never see them on the phone with an actual customer, they only watch our calls. They are located in Ashland, KY. I do understand that this article seems as if I have a grievance with ccb. I do not. My objection is the fact that this company claims to help people with bad credit, when all it does is force them into bankruptcy. Believe me, I have seen it hundreds of times.

All you have to do when they call is simply hang up regardless of what threats they say. They can do nothing more than turn you over to a third party collector, who will only help you and treat you fair. I have seen balances paid in full with $0.50 purposely left on the account so that even if the account is closed when the former due date rolls around, the customer gets a late fee of $30. All I really want is for the public to be aware of this company. The company cares for nothing more than telephone payments. They have a quota they must meet each night. To let this company do this to you gives them the right to do this to anyone. As I said earlier, you may not believe me, but that does not make what I have written any less the truth.

Brian (Milton) you are correct. Brian from Ashland, you also are correct. I was at Ashland for 3 yrs, now recalled to Huntington. I enjoy my job because I strive to assist customers, who are in essence, ...me. When Ashland shut down, I became at a loss of income. Same as some CCB customers. The key is not allowing yourself to dig a hole you cant get out of. Dont rely on credit as a savior but a luxury. Sooner or later you have to pay for what you have and if it werent for some persons "overpaying" the economy alone would go down the drain. Yes, I have heard every excuse for not paying, I've even used these excuses. If the caller & the callee both bear in mind that they are both people & not "collector vs delinquent" you can work it out. Ive heard condescending slurrs on both sides of the lines here & where does it get you???? Well.... for the caller, its just more job stress (which is unnecessary) and for the customer, yet another scar on the old credit score.....both of us should ask ourselves, is it worth it to pass bad words & names all day? Save it for American Rights & things that are beneficial...

Former Employee Sets the Record Straight

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, September 30, 2003

I am a former employee of Applied Card Systems who worked in the Information Technology Department. I served Applied Card for more than three years in capacities ranging from technical to management. In all of those years, I saw Applied Card and Cross Country Bank go through some struggles as their customer base exploded from approximately 250,000 cardholders to well over two million. I was involved in weekly corporate management meetings, meetings in executive committees, and meetings with the individual departments of both companies. I also had numerous private meetings and conversations with Mr. Abessinio, the Chairman and CEO of ACS, and the (at that time) Chairman and CEO of CCB, as well as one-on-one meetings with other Senior Executives within the company. I personally helped start the Boca Raton, FL, Huntington, WV, and Ashland, KY sites. My voice is even on some of the automated dialing systems to this day. (Please call Shane Neff at Cross Country Bank; telephone number 302-xxx-xxxx). I helped bring in and set up many of the systems they use today for customer service, collections, and account processing. As an I.T. manager, I also went through collections training, customer service training and training in various other departments at their Wilmington, DE headquarters facility as a way to better understand the business. I saw no evidence of training personnel to perform illegal or illicit collections activities at any time. In all of the time that I was there, and all of the access I had to the systems, I never was witness to any large-scale illegal activities, any concerted efforts to defraud customers, or any of the strong-armed collection practices that I have seen described here. If customers did not pay as agreed (and the cardholder agreement is sent to each cardholder of the company), collection efforts would begin. Beginning at 1-15 days, the automated dialer system would begin calling delinquent cardholders once asking them to call the bank. At 16-30 days, the frequency of calls would increase, and the call would be connected to a collections representative who would try to work with the customer to obtain a payment. At 31-45 days, the company assumes that if you havent called to make arrangements, then you may be attempting to avoid your financial obligations, and more experienced and aggressive collectors are put in charge of the account. At 45-60 days and 60+ days, it is assumed that you are attempting to dodge your debt. Calls are then made to your home once per day, and attempts are made to contact your nearest relative (as was indicated on your application), your place of employment, or other telephone numbers that we may be able to obtain. All the while, letters are being sent to the address that the card was sent to, or the address that we have on record. If a cardholder indicates that he/she does not wish to be contacted via phone at any number, the company has a legal responsibility to honor that request, and they do. If your number is bring called daily, then you are not communicating with ACS/CCB. The company never calls customers earlier than 8:00 AM, not later than 9:00 PM, at the customers local time. It just does not happen. There are built-in safeguards to prevent that type of calling in the automated dialer software. CCB and ACS have had numerous complaints lodged against them. These complaints usually stem from the companies attempts to contact customers when there is an issue with their account(s). The repeated nature of these communications represents the customers unwillingness to return the companies phone calls or letters to their residence. Ladies and Gentlemen, the simplest way to avoid any perceived harassment is to pay your bills on time, stay below your credit limit, and if you are contacted by your bank, whether it be CCB/ACS or any other bank, creditor or business you deal with; take responsibility and contact them back.

they raised my limit to $750.00. Then, I was a victim of fraud and my entire checking account was emptied

I received a cross country bank credit card. It was my very first actual (not a store) credit card. I read the pamphlet with the card very throughly and understood what my balance was, when my bill was due and what fees were to be applied to the card in certain circumstances. The first two years with the card, I paid over the minimum every month and only made small purchases. I never received a late fee or an overlimit fee. In fact, they raised my limit to $750.00. Then, I was a victim of fraud and my entire checking account was emptied by someone not once, but twice. I had to change banks (changing accounts didn't even help) I took alot of hits to my credit for three months due to this. Every month I would get my bills from CCB and I knew that I was charged a late charge and an overlimit for the late charge. My credit union helped me out by financing my cars so that I could get everyone but two companies paid off. CCB was one I didn't pay off, but I was able to pay a large payment. I asked the representative how much I would need to pay to bring my account "really current" as in, pay everything owed and bring my account under limit enough that I would not be charged an overlimit fee for anything that might be pending in the next few months. He gave me an amount and even offered to waive the $7.00 phone pay to pay it right then. I agreed and now my account is "really current" I owe only my minimum payment (of course, I'll pay more) I haven't been charging any of my credit cards although all (except CCB) are paid off (not closed) THE POINT: I knew why each charge was on my bill and I knew when my payment was due. They never charged me a late fee when I didn't deserve it and never "held" my checks before posting them. They may have posted my check, but not made the funds available right away, but I understand that. All the representatives I have spoken to have been very courteous. The representative who took my last payment even told me he would note the account about why I became so behind so that they could take that into consideration when they evaluated my account for future credit increases. My experience with CCB has been very positive and I would reccomend it to everyone for a first credit card. My reccomendation to anyone is to make sure you understand the terms of your card and if you see something on your bill you don't understand, call and have someone explain it. If they tell you something posted before something else and you were charged for it, ask what their policy is for future reference. If you call customer service for any company, be nice and you'll get alot farther than automatically jumping on what they are saying. Make sure you understand what they're saying first. Thank you for the opportunity to share my positive experience with this company amid all the negative reports!

I am an unfortunate CCB "customer"

#13Consumer Comment

Thu, September 25, 2003

Recently, my husband and I have been battling with our finances. I was laid off last year and had to take a lesser paying job. My husband works in construction and does not work when it rains. I made an attempt to call CCB and work out a payment arrangement. This is the first time ever in my three years of being their customer. They refused and demanded that I make a payment right then and there! That was in January. Now, my husband and I are having financial problems. I've attempted to get a second job for the past four months and no one is hiring. CCB calls my work number, after being told verbally, via email, and through correspondence not to contact me at work, once EVERY HOUR and then calls my home number up until 9:30pm. I have made no attempts to contact them back because I do not need to be bullied into making a payment I cannot make. They do NOT want to work with their customers when their customers are have financial difficulties. My account is now over 90 days past due and the late fees/over the limit fees/ etc have built up so much that it's overwhelming. I'm talking to a bankruptcy attorney right now. I am not a low life and race has NOTHING to do with it. People DO have unforseeable circumstances that DO arise. It's NOT worth stressing over anymore. All of you experiencing the same problem, have my sympathies as I am in the same situation. All I can say is that CCB's lack of working with their customers have helped me make my decision to file bankruptcy on them. Although they have been told SEVERAL times NOT to contact me at work, they still continue to do so. I have been documenting the call dates/times so that I may report this to my Attorney General's office. Thank you for listening.

Hi-Five to you pal. Just read all the rebuttles and im thinking,... Hey peter! Bet you didnt know you had the influence to spark this kind of response. You know, Its all good though. CCB and whatever else they call themselves are getting just a small taste of what they deserve and to my understanding are far from being out of the woods. Whoever said loansharks hit it just right and that company screwed over and pissed off all the wrong people it sounds like and i hope the fall hurts as much as the people they ruined during thier diabolic reign. You see folks. There is terrorism right here in America. This is just one of many forms it rears its ugly head under. Bad thing is, Alot of the other credit card companies are just as bad and also work out of the Wilmington,Delaware Proccessing Center. Sooner or later they will srew over enough of the wrong people too and take an ugly fall. Hey, aside from all the biccaring, I love you people!! Way to take a stand for yourselves. When you walk out in the morning, Smile widely knowing you did good for yourselves and made the difference. Ill be smilin with ya and watchin for the next rip-off joint to take a dive.:) :) :)

I was given a ccb account seven years ago and the thing is on my report with a two year more wait to be removed. Applied card also give me a credit card with $250.00 of which they used $230.00 and the bill stands at $722.30 today. they call alot talk to my 9 year old and threaten to search my assets and make a judgement which they say will double the cost of paying off the bill. I did bankrupsy which was dismissed lost my home as I could not refinance with CCB and Applied card reporting ccb listed two accounts 4 times in the main credit reporting agencies all at different amounts and different payment history My story is a long one and ccb and applied card are ripoff companies.

#16UPDATE EX-employee responds

If working at ACS in Beckley, WV and Ashland, KY was so great and your jobs were so secure and everything mentioned in these complaints were lies - why are you today UNEMPLOYED? Having worked w/ACS for almost a year I know the truth - I voluntarily left my position due to the job was against I stand for. For those that haven't heard, at least 1000 (500 each location) people in the Beckley/Ashland offices lost their jobs in March 2003 when they closed up shop with less than 5 minutes notice. For anyone interested in details, I'm including a link from a local newspaper with several articles pertaining to the ACS closing. http://www.register-herald.com/?search=go&o=0&l=20&s=recent&r=&d1=3-1-2003&d2=4-30-2003&q=ACS Ronnie and Steve, all I can do is pray for your families - jobs are few and far between. But I do continue to wonder - how do you feel about ACS today?

We are hard working men and women of all races and ages who had credit problems and are just now able to get out from under them, and to have some SH*T eating company like CCB come and steal everything that we have worked for... Well like I said hopefully you won't have to learn the way that we did. I'm 32 years old, with a wife that I love, two kids that I adore, a home that I am buying, trying to build my credit and CCB is trying to take all of that away. How? Is it because I couldn't pay my bill? NO. Is it because I didn't understand that there are fees associated with paying my bill late? NO. It's because CCB found a way post my payment late so that no matter when I pay it. I would ALWAYS incure a late fee and once I found that out I REFUSED TO PAY THEM.

Okay... I'll admit, I have a CCB card and believe you me it has been no easy task getting rid of them but I have found a way to play their game and hope to beat them at it as well. But that is not why I decided to state my opinion, my concern was that all of you have made your comments and have put each other down. Sad part of it all is that the majority of you have some serious spelling issues, as for the so called "racism", how pathetic. Now I'm not saying I'm perfect cause I'm not nor am I a "wealthy minority" but I work just as hard as the next black, mexican, white, asian, etc. does. In this day and age racism should be a part of the past. Anyways besides I think we're all grown adults and we should be able to contain ourselves and use better judgement when it comes to applying for any kind of credit. Besides we're supposed to be bad mouthing CCB not each other. PS CCB sucks and I think it is very stupid that they want to charge me $30 for replacing my old card that will no longer swipe. If they are a "bank" then why do they have to send off for it from somewhere else... get real CCB... face it your a joke! Thanks... just needed to get that off my chest... hehehe!

You were going along fine in the beginning David until you started hallucinating. I've read Shelia's comments and though I completely understand how she feels, some of her sentiments can be construed as racist. That notwithstanding, nowhere in her comments did I see the word "b***h". Were you using "creative license" for affect? And where did that "getto" [ghetto] comment come from? There wasn't one iota of ghetto associated with her comment, unlike yours...playa. (You must be from the Compton side of Bullhead). She wasn't blaming the world; rather she was simply checking someone who was out of line. Her statements might have been offensive, but you calling her b***h was definitely offensive. Obviously, she works in the legal field and if your intellect was a vivid as your imagination and you weren't so busy laughing and dreaming up vituperative of your own, you would have gleaned that. And your ending pubescent "hook up" comment was funny...NOT. What was that 10th grade foolishness? I can't begin to guess what race you are and wouldn't want to, it'd be an insult to any one of them. Suffice to say: you would want to learn how to rebut in a more intelligent and objective manner. And David, though you don't know my race, I'm betting you definitely know I've got class. Work on that!

Although I agree Ronnie is a a*****e Sheila you got no room to talk as nowhere in Ronnies statement did he ever say he was white. As we all know the KKK is a WHITE only organization and you accused Ronnie of being a member. It appears you are the racist here. I thinks its funny anytime a Black or a Mexican gets talked about it has to be comming from a white. Ronnie could be a Mongolian for all you know. You say hes KKK so we know thats white and you go on to the following description of white people "You sound like the typical uneducated, hill billy, back woods, married to your cousin, hateful, jealous, poor, greasy, long-haired, beer drinkin, entry-level job havin, racist". You got no right to be calling anyone a racist b***h. Then you go on with QUOTE " yes I am a minority. A well-educated, wealthy, upper class minority. A minority who has the power to "make or break" losers like yourself in the blink of any eye." I'm sitting here laughing my a*s off. Upper class haha Thats a lie as anyone can see your typical getto trash blaming the white man for your troubles. I bet your assuming I'm white also arent you b***h. I have to put you in the same class as ronnie. An uneducated racist dumb a*s. Maybe you two should hook up.

Tell me something, Ronnie. Since you know all of CCB's consumers who can't pay their bills are Mexican or Black, that must mean you're not only racist but also phychic, right. Because of the abundant/numerous complaints I've investigated against CCB, I've seen a CCB credit application and I don't recall any question about race on the CCB application. Oh, but you can probably tell by their voice on the phone what race of person you're speaking to. YEAH RIGHT!!! Now let me assess who/what you may be without knowing you... You sound like the typical uneducated, hill billy, back woods, married to your cousin, hateful, jealous, poor, greasy, long-haired, beer drinkin, entry-level job havin, racist CCB/Applied Card employee who's always stickin their foot in their mouth. And if you're a CCB/Applied Card employee, you probably can't afford to keep up on all YOUR bills. There, now how accurate is that? I've just convinced myself who you are ...just like you do all your so-called Mexican & African American conumers who you say don't pay their bills. There's on BIG difference though, my assessment is most likely accurate. If you'd like to know, yes I am a minority. A well-educated, wealthy, upper class minority. A minority who has the power to "make or break" losers like yourself in the blink of any eye. I've encountered tape recordings of CCB threatening consumers with incarceration, law suits, wage garnishments, and physical force!!! So either you're naive or just plain old stoopid to believe that EVERYONE is just makin up all these lies about CCB. Once again, another dumb-a*s CCB employee gets on the Internet and rambles off at the mouth and makes it worse for CCB by demonstrating the exact behavior the consumers are complaining about. Ronnie, THANKS FOR HELPING US PROVE OUR CASE. Don't worry CCB won't exist for long and neither will you. My advice to you is, "See if you can get your old job back at McDonalds when CCB goes under!!!"

Fisrt off, if you people really don't use these tactics, etc. Then why such a foul and disrespectful mouth? The only think that comes out you each of you is how the people that don't pay need to get off their butts, need to bend over and get screwed by CCB. As I stated in my first rebuttal, my husband never applied for your card nor ever received your card, yet your office calls and makes none stop harassing and disrespectful phone calls, not to mention the threats. When we spoke to the "supervisor", which I state lightly, he tells us that it was mailed to our former adress and they have a application with my husbands signature on file. Of course we know this is bull, so in accordance to laws, we requested a copy of this information several times in the last year. You know what? We still haven't seen any such thing. So, the bottom line. You can lie about this company all you want and dump on those that got screwed by you, but, in the end, your company will be the only ones crying!

Ronnie,

You're nothing but a corporate shill. Tell us why so many unsatisfied consumers have filed over 300 Rip-off Reports against your company, not to mention we've received over 1,560 complaints by consumers about your wonderful company. Are you bigger than Wells Fargo or Chase? they don't have the complaints your company does, and there not being investigated by the authorities, yes Ronnie, your company is under investigation as we speak for so many different violations, I can't remember them all. If I were you, I'd be looking for another job. Also, you're a liar, trying to sign in as a consumer when you're an employee, company shill.

Well, right now i do work at applied card systems. I have been through the three weeks of training, and the fact that you people are saying that we threaten you, your lieing, period. We are monitored and i know of hundreds of employees that get bitched out because they say the wrong thing at the wrong time. I am defending Appled Card Systems, are tactics work. The fact that people cry and complaing when we call is just another company trying to get what is ours. When people sign the credit card agreement they tell us they understand and they will comply. And as of now 6 million people have complied. 80% pay there bill on time. It is the other 20% that don't. And as for having experience on the collections floor i can say the people who are bumms that don't pay there bill, at least 50% are mexican who can't speak english in the first place the other 20% are african americans. I am not a redneck and i am not discriminating, but the fact that i have the athority to say that because i have heard it with my own ears does make a difference. I had a black lady last night tell me to eat her big fat juicy furry c**t, i called back and her son answered, and said did you hear what my mother said. He didn't even sound as if he was over 15 years old, that is the kind of people that we come in contact with. But on the other hand, i have collected from customers that where in the hospital getting ready to go through a lifesaving surgery. Do i care NO, if we gave in to all of the 20% who didn't want to pay there bill, the company would go bankrupt. And a lot of you say, GOOD, well i am sorry but my company, Applied Card Systems, is the best place to work, i wouldn't want to work anywhere else. As for the fees, read the agreement that you signed. And another thing, i have not once heard of CCB issueing cards to people that didn't ask for one. Maybe you signed it and just forgot, beside half of you are old and forgetfull, just based on the simple fact that you can't remember the fees or and associated with the Cross Country Bank Credit Card.....

First of all I've worked for this company that gets so openly trashed for over a year. I've had good days and I've had bad days. Something that never changes is that fact that there is always a whining a*s deadbeat retard on the phone telling lies about why he or she cannot pay a bill they agreed to pay. I'll be the first to admit some people do have problems and need help, but that is not our problem. Every person who has a ccb credit card agreed to any fees phone calls "collection tactics" when they used the card and somehow forgot to pay the bill. Ronnie though I have no clue who he is attempted to make a good point. The majority of our customers love ccb because we've helped them establish credit or reestablish credit. The only difference between those people and the people who complain is the fact that they actually pay thier bills. So take my advice... get off your asses get a job second job whatever and pay your damned bill.

No one really cares rather you still work there or not. As to what "Peter" has written in his statement about Allied card systems or CCB, I strongly believe to be the truth and I am sure everyone reading this that has dealt with this company feels the same.

Over a year ago, my husband started getting harassing phone calls form CCB stating he owed them over $600. First off, he never applied for this card nor had any such card. They threatened him stating he was in breach of his contract and that they would press federal charges on him for fraud. Stupid of CCB, I guess they had no clue that I have a paralegal degree and knew they were full of themselves. The man told him they would continue to call him.

They would call 10 to 20 times a day, all hours of the day and night, etc. Then they started leaving messages like, "If you know what's good for you, you need to call CCB.", "Hi, ???????, this is candy, I had a good time last night, please pick up." And it goes on and on. These tactics are illegal, this company is a scam, and people will bring this company down.

So, for you to actually have enough guts to rebuttal for CCB, telling "Peter" to stop being a cry baby makes me sick. He is telling the people what is actually going on, if you can't handle that, then you seriously are the one who needs to get over it. My husband has good credit and this company tryed to tarnish it, it didn't work. Now and days, a creditor looks at CCB as a nothing, they don't deduct points from peoples credit anymore, the world has smarted up, you need to get a clue!

For anyone reading this that has had a problem with this company, complain to your Attorney General, they will make the compalints known and investigate them thouroughly.

This is simply to rebut the completly insane comments made by Peter and we all know that this is not your real name. You have chosen to list my name along with the other people in your report and your info is completly false. I started with Applied Card Systems as a collector and can guarantee you that I have logged more collections hours than you have ever dreamed of.

I am no longer with Applied Card for different reasons but I wanted to straighten a few things out. I was one of the few individuals in the company who cared for people like you who were there simply to get a paycheck. I am sorry that you can not handle a simple job. We all accumulate debt in our lives and odds are when you do you will receive a call from the creditor.

CCB is not a man it is a bank and it employees thousands of hard working Americans. I admit that some people may have been treated unfairly but only when employees like you decided to treat them unfairly. Collections is a hard job, let's just be honest about it. I am sorry that you have chosen to use my name simply because you could not handle the job that YOU made the choice to take.

You were trained with no false pretenses about what you were going to be doing. You were even given an extended period of 1 week to train on the phones to make YOUR decision about the job you chose to take. I want to reiterate that I am no longer with Applied Card Systems or CCB. I just wish people like you would concentrate on your own lives and leave the lives of us hard working honest people alone.
