Danielson's Fresh Market Place Unjustly search and detain paying customer Oregon City Oregon
On Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 12:00 P.M. I went to Danielson's Fresh Marketplace in Oregon City, Oregon to buy lunch and some air fresheners. My purse was closed on my shoulder and I was using a provided basket to carry my selections in. I took my items to the register, used my coupons and paid for my merchandise. As I was walking out of the store a man in plain clothes approached me from behind and said that I had taken some Glade air fresheners. He never once presented any sort of ID. I explained to him that I paid for everything in my bags and showed him the receipt. He glanced at the receipt, then went through my bags, my purse and made me lift my shirt so he could see my pants pockets. When it was clear that I had not taken anything he stated that he was sure I had stole those air fresheners. He then told me that it was best that I never shop there again and went back into the store. He did not apologize once, and when I went back into the store to speak to a manager and demand my money back, the manager stated that they have nothing to do with store security and that he would return my money. He also did not apologize. I cannot be sure that this was not a scam, or that the security guard was who he claimed to be. The fact that the store management did not want to even verify if they have a plain clothed security guard just goes to show that lack of concern or respect for paying customers.
