Actually a more appropriate term for you would be "young and nieve" rather than "intellegent witty young lass". For your future dealings with any contract you have to remember one rule. If it is not in writing it does not exist. So unless the assurance was in writing that you could get a loan, you can't rely on that. But I will also say that if you kept your overall credit and income good, the chances of you getting a loan would have been very good. So there are probably other credit/income issues keeping either of you from getting the loan. However, there are several companies that do this and you are not stuck with just Ford Credit. So why didn't your mom(or you) try other banks? By the way the reason Ford Credit is coming after you for the amount is because of the legal agreement you signed when you leased the car that said you would pay for excess milage.

Let me get this straight, you went 20,000 miles over on the lease, your mother's credit obviously went down the tubes since she signed for the lease and it's the dealers fault. WOW!!!! Some people are unbeleivable!!!!

How long was the lease? What were the terms of the lease? What was owed on the vehicle at the end of the lease? How many miles over were you? Why was your mother turned down and did she apply for a loan from some other institution other then ford motor credit? Did anything change from the time the two of you first applied v when you or she applied the second time? If they were coming after you for $7,000, you must have put like 20,000 +- miles on the vehicle. They usually charge 35 cents per mile. You could have "bought" extra miles at the beginning of the lease at 5 or 10 cents per mile and saved yourself some money. My dimwit son-in-law went 34,000 miles over on his lease. They put the $12,000 onto his next vehicle. So many vehicle are coming off of lease and have lost so much value that the MFG's arent leasing vehicles anymore. I know ciat isn't anymore.
