Derek Sempselli, Lawyer Conned out of $3000 - Stay Away.
Stay far away from Derek Sempselli! I was conned out out $3000 and was left with no usable documents and no ability to sue in small claims court. I am a young entreprenuer that started a company and needed an attorney to do financing docuemtns. While he appears to be charming and professional at first, the experience was a nightmare. He took my $3000 and I have no usable deliverables to show for it. It's sickening that this man takes advantage of young entrepernuers so I am sharing my story to ensure this doesn't happen to others.
The first red flag came when I asked Derek for a reference, he offered me one... who was his buddy. Still, I signed on. Once I paid upfront in full, he started working without reading the company documents (its impossible to do the work without first reading our company documents!). When I raised the issue, he said it wasnt part of his job. Before even the first deliverable was done he asks for additional $1500 for a document we dont need... and then an addtitional $750.... ***TO FIX AN ISSUE WE DIDNT EVEN HAVE.*** Its like a mechanic asking for $750 to fix your covertable roof on your car... when you dont have a convertable!
Once it was clear to me that I was being conned, I tried to end the agreement and get my money back (he hadn't produced any of the agreed upon documents at the time). When I asked to end the agreement he refused to return any money. Worse, when I asked for my money back he tried to intimidate me by sending me a bill for $5,880... when our agreement clearly said $3000 flat rate. He even pocketed the money I paid for STATE FEES until I got another lawyer involved, then he sent back the state fees but still kept the $3000. There are THOUSANDS of lawyers that can do financing documents, STAY FAR AWAY FROM Derek Sempselli.
