Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I believe I applied for this account in 98/99. I was approved for $3800 and I believed I could handle that, well they increased my balance another $3800 without my concent. This was not a good time to do this because I was having a hardship. Now my balance is $6600 and I am over the limit because I can't afford the monthly payment on the account.

The people at this company are relentless, they call me between 10 and 12 times a day until they have forced me to keep my answer machine on. One day I pulled up my messages and within two days my message from them totalled 34 this is ludicrous.

I realize this is my responsiblity to pay this bill and I have no problem paying my bills but I have asked them numerous times to help me. I have asked them to lower my monthly payment so I can bring these overlimit and late charges down, but no one will consider helping me. They charge me $34 overlimit and $34 late charge and see that I can't pay this. I am 50 years old and I have never been in a situation like this.

I feel I will owe these people longer than necessary, because they are ruining good hard working people, and people that has put their trust in them. I tried a consumer credit counseling organization only to find out they were dishonest too.

So with Direct Merchant and this crooked Consumer Credit I am further in debt. But I thank God for the Credit Card companies that has volunteered to help me. Thank God for them!

Although I don't agree with Jamie's method and do recognize she IS NOT an employee, she has something of value in her statement. Debra, I am sorry you are in the situation you are in. There are employees who can help see which programs you are eligible for. You are not a bad person for the circumstance you're in, we just need to help you deal with it. Depending on your situation, there may be a plan which reduces your APR, eliminates your fees or something similar; similar to the positive experience Jamie had. Beth- I am not pond scum. The attack on you was not the approach I take in the collections department. Like Debra, you are not a deadbeat or irresponsible, just struggling now. There are plans to help. Please keep the communication open with the company. That is the best way to resolve the issue. Find someone willing to work with you and USE them; there are compassionate people at the company. Amber- sometimes interest pushes you over your credit limit. That is when the overlimit charges start. If you tack on top of that a late fee, you're paying $78 on fees alone...thats not attacking the interest OR principal. That is why a large payment or many small payments can be beneficial. Hopefully, you all can realize that there are people here to help you get back on your feet. Keep the communication open...

First of all I am not a employee of Direct Merchants Bank I happen to have the Metris Companies Credit Card but thank you for the compliment. As for the wonderful wishes for my future well just to let you know your too late. A short list of what I have personally had to overcome in the past 6 months for your reading pleasure. Father commited sucide Dec 13,Husband unemployed Jan 8, Mother informed of terminal illness Apr 5, Daughter sick not able to determine why currently. So thanks for the well wishes but a fee on a credit card is the last thing I am personally worried about and by the way DMB was nice enough to put me on a program that lowered my apr, makes it were I have no fees, and lowers my payment on the account. All I had to do was call and explain my situation and answer a few questions. I am sorry if you both were not fortunate enough to get to talk to the same people as me I know there is probably bad reps in the company as there is in every company. I guess I just was fortunate. Good Luck to you both in the future.

This little message is to Jamie in response to her extremely RUDE rebuttal. The fact of the matter is that it is not about paying the money that a consumer spent, it is the extra charges that were not of any fault of the consumer. I filed a report recently explaining my situation and I have been contacted by an attorney that DMB sent my account to. I paid and paid and paid until I realized that those payments were basically going out of the window. Like I explained to the attorney, I will most DEFINITELY pay back the $1500 that I charged, but I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FEES THAT WERE CHARGED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO GROUNDS. I could not even get an explanation from DMB of when and why I was "over the limit". None whatsoever. Oh, and I also wish you just one experience in the situation some people involved with DMB are in, you would definitely be singing a different tune. Have a wonderful day.

Jamie, You DMB Employee - You've Shown How Cold-hearted DMB Is

Maybe YOU should be the one to grow up. Did you really think that people reading your cold- hearted reply would NOT notice that you are from Tulsa, you called DMB "Metris", and NOT know you are an employee? Only someone young and/or naive would think that. Fine, Metris may be a wonderful company to it's employees. But it treats the people that are paying your salary like primordial pond scum. We aren't helped out by ANY programs that they offer. What programs are offered us? You call them for help, and the onlyhelp you receive is increasing your vocabulary by being called every nasty name in the book. My husband HAD called them numerous times to explain a situations, one directly caused by DMB. He was told he had to pay the amount that was late (by one week!) AND the next months payment that wasn't even due yet or face legal action. It is plainly clear that you have never met with an unexpected or unfortunate situation before. Things happen beyond people's control. Things like catastrophic medical expenses due to an illness or injury. Suddenly being unemployed and loosing a good portion, if not the lion's share, of the families income. Until I came on here and read responses by people like you that have absolutely no compassion or concious, I have never wished something like this on anyone. But may one day YOU have something happen where you are unable to pay your bills in a timely manner or in the amount they are asking that is way beyond you capabilities to meet. May YOU be on the receiving end of the same demoralizing and cruel treatment that you and your fellow employees have shown to others. Not everyone that falls behind is a deadbeat or irresponsible. A lesson in life you haven't grown up enough to learn yet.

GROW UP

#6Consumer Comment

I am sorry about your hard luck but if you would have paid your credit card bill as you should have in the first place you would not be in the situation that you are in currently. Metris is a wonderful company that has helped me in all types of situations with different programs available through them all I had to do was pick up the phone and talk to them about my situation and not try to avoid them. You knowingly ran up your credit balance on the account you were aware of the increase if you hadn't been then you still would have gone over your credit limit only sooner. Quit trying to blame your problems on all the companies that couldn't help you maybe you should try to help yourself in the future and grow up and be an adult. Until then sadly enough you are only going to get even more "took advantage of".
