DirecTV, AT&T Billing and Customer Service Will Lie To You Atlanta GA
Several months ago after receiving a rate increase I contacted DirecTV, now owned by AT&T, in order to cancel service. They transferred me to their customer retention department where I was given several discounts so I decided to retain service. I get DirecTV, AT&T internet service, and AT&T phone service bundled together. My bill was adjusted for the following month (AT&T bills in advance) but in the month after none of the discounts were included on the bill. When I called DirecTV the customer service representative had the audacity to tell me that they were one-month discounts, which is a ridiculous claim to make because why would I agree to retain service for a one-month billing adjustment? The discount was supposed to last until October. Last month I contacted AT&T via chat so that I would have a transcript of our conversation, so that the company could not lie to me again. This time I was told they could not adjust my bill however I would see a credit on my next bill so I should pay the amount due less the credit. I was told that I had to call them every month because they were unable to automatically change the amount on my bill! Sure enough, my most recent bill includes both a past amount due in the amount of the credit, which apparently was never applied to my bill, and a late fee! You cannot convince me that this is a mere mistake. They are clearly hoping that either I will not review my bill or I will give in to their bullying and pay the amount that they bill sans discount.
DirecTV once provided excellent customer service that was worth the extra money that they charged. Then they were purchased by AT&T and now customer service is awful. Do not do business with this company.
