I recently called to cancel my service with Directv. I was told that a termination fee was to be paid immediately, along with any outstanding monies due. I was fine with that except I requested a copy of the document with my signature showing that a termination fee would be due if I terminated my account early. I was told they would send it to me but they would be taking this money out of my Visa account (debit card) immediately. I told them I did not authorize them to take this money from my account (3 times), that I had used my credit card to pay my bill on line once and they had kept this information on my file without my knowledge. I suggested they send me a bill with the documents I requested and If I a agreed I would pay the bill immediately.

Well, they debited my account even through I did not give them permission. This is not a reasonable thing to allow these companies to do. To me if you pay a bill on line you are giving companies permission to take your information and do as they will.

I have had Directv for over a year now. I knew when I got Directv installed that I would have a termination fee if I chose to cancel before my commitment was up. When the tech's installed my system, I signed a little piece of paper that all that information in the fine print. I never sign anything for signing. If I had ordered the system with a live person, that information would have been told to me at the time of order, as it was with my cousin. Now, as for the money being taken out of your account without your permission, you did give persmission when you let them have your credit card to keep on file. That is also stated in the contract that if you owe them money you are giving them permission to take it. If you cancel your contract with Directv before your contract is up, you will pay $20/month for each receiver you have for every month left in your contract. Also, if your equipment is leased, and chances are it is, you will have to pay for them as well if you don't return them because they do belong to the company. You will have 20 days after to cancellation to return them before the money for those will be charged to your account also. Directv is not the only company to do this. Anyone will want their money you owe them if you cancel a contract early. I love my Directv and have never had an issue with them. I read my contract.
