DiscountBookSale - DBS Books, Charged $19.95 monthly membership fee after ordering a book Boca Raton, Florida
I bought a book on July 2, 2009 from DBS for $11.02 and shipping charge of $3.99. Invoice said a $5 savings applied for first-time purchase. Book arrived in timely fashion and in good condition. Early in August I noticed that I had a charge of $19.95 for DBS books on July 5, 2009 and August 5, 2009 on my credit card. I called DBS on August 8, 2009 and talked to Caesar. He told me that when I bought the book I signed up for a trial membership and when the trial period was over they started to charge me the monthly fee.
I guess based on the charges, my trial period was 3 days! If I did sign up for this membership, it was done in such a way that I didn't know it. I have no proof that I signed up...no email...just credit card charges. He offered to cancel my monthly subscription but would not refund the two charges.
I told him my alternative was then to go to American Express to dispute the charges and contact Amazon who linked me to DBS. He told me to hold then came back and said he would remove the August charge. To do this he requested and I gave him my email address and mailing address. Soon after I got an email stating that my subscription to BestBrandValues had been cancelled. I contacted American Express to dispute the July charge and they said they would credit my July charge.
