Just wanted to put closure to this. After I contacted thge Better Business Bureau of Denver (which handles Dish complaints), I received a call two days later from someone in their dispute resolution department. He said he would reverse the $00 charge and give me a month's free service. It took about 10 more days, but much to my surprise, and satisfaction, he did come through. So as of now I'm still with dish, but one more screw-up and I'm going to cable.

Today, 12 days after the money was withdrawn from my account, the $400 was returned to it. What worked was filing a complaint with the BBB of Denver. I strongly suggest anyone with a gripe against Dish do that. You can do it online and it's easy. I got a call from someone from the Dish "dispute resolution team" who promised I would get the money returned. It took a full week but he did keep his word. I'm still wary of Dish and may bolt for cable but for now I just want to watch TV for a while and not deal with these people.

A few days after I posted this report I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Two days later I got a call from a guy with the Dish dispute resolution team apologizing for the "mistake" and agreeing it never should have happened. He said that he would reverse the charge and also give me a free month of service. He gave me his personal number too. It is now 5 days later. My Dish statement online SAYS a refund has been issued but that money has yet to show up in my bank account (the refund was issued on Thursday, today is Saturday). I left one voice mail with the guy (it was a legitimate number) but he has not returned my call yet to let me know if and when the money will be in my bank account. SO for now the jury is still out. But the moral of this story is if you have a problem with Dish they DO seem to respond to BBB complaints. You have to go to the site of the Denver office of the BBB.

After being kept on hold for close to an hour, I was told the dispatcher could not be reached and to call back in 24-48 hours.
