I went to this Dr. a couple of years ago to get a pre-surgery evaluation. I gave them my insurance information and assumed everything would be fine. That is until a couple of years later I checked my credit report and saw a collections action from Credit Administration. Well, I disputed the item, credit agency got back to me and said it was valid. I called the "Credit Administration" and they said it was from this Dr. I never paid. Never received a collection letter or anything. I asked for a copy of the bill. They said I had to sign a release and fax it to them. I did this. Never to this day have received a copy of the bill. Equifax refuses to take this off. The Dr. has since retired and I am unable to contact him to see if he ever bothered to file a claim with the insurance. Although I know they would have paid since they paid for my $10,000 surgery, why not a $300.00 pre surgery screening? Also, the people that worked in his office were very rude and probably forgot to fill out the paperwork. They used to yell at the sick patients in the waiting room. Which is why I stopped going there in the first place. Aetna has now closed the division under which I used to be insured, so I am unable to see if a payment was ever made so that I could pursue legal action against the dr. I don't even want to start on how bad Aetna has gone downhill in the recent years. A lot of doctors in my area are dropping them. Save yourself the headache and don't ever sign up with them!

for the doctors office it is the insurance companies that are not paying the claims

well, i did not have access to the insurance information at the time, it was under someone elses name that I did not live with. Unfortunately for the doctors office it is the insurance companies that are not paying the claims (my new doctor says Aetna is notorious for this). If I was ever notified that there was a problem with the insurance not paying I promptly would have paid and/or immediately contacted the insurance company. They must have not wanted thier money too bad because not once did they or the collections company try to contact me (they had my info). My credit report said "paid" under this "collections" item, after I disputed it (because at the time I had no clue what it was), they said "not paid", so something was getting mixed up at the collections office. It was also a shame the people in the doctors office were so completely rude and incompetent since the doctor was a really nice guy. Besides, looking for an "itemized bill" would have been completely out of the question. The man retired, didn't bother to notify his patients, my mom arrived for a walk in visit to find a sign on the door. She never was able to find out where her medical records ended up.

responsibility for claims is your responsibility

big pet peeve of mine dealing with employees and their insurance issues .... people who don't follow up on their medical claims and then place blame on the doctor's office and insurance administrators. "I assumed everything was fine until a couple years later" <<>> if you don't receive an EOB from your insurance administrator explaining how a claim was processed, then the claim most likely was not received by the administrator. who knows why, but YOU have to call and find out if they received it. if not then YOU have to contact the provider and either have them resubmit or get your lazy a*s down there and get an itemized bill and submit it your self. it's up to YOU to see that your balance is paid with your provider. you typically have one year to make sure all your doctor's visits have been submitted to your insurance. keep copies of your bills and your EOBs and be responsible for your financial responsibilities. pursue legal action?? it's people like you that are going to make good doctor's require CASH payments at the time of service and ruin it for everybody else. people like you really piss me off.
