Driver Detective And Paretologic Driver Cure I bought Driver Detective on line for a total of $39.90 for 2 years. All program does is scan. Austin Internet
While I was on line reading e-mail a box came up saying I had drivers that were needed to be downloaded now. Not thinking I call for my husband to bring me a credit card now. I just assumed it was a Microsoft program and wondered why I had to pay. I then scanned with Driver Detective and it told me it was critical that I download a bunch of drivers right now. I tried and have checked to see if I could download any one of the drivers--finally I just quit trying. . The program does nothing but scan. Today I am having PC Mighty Max saying I have 1590 Outstanding PC Errors. I know that is not true so I decided to check on Driver Detective and found other people are having this problem. I called a computer engineer and he told me he had never heard of this program. I paid for 2 years a total of $39.90 on my credit card,April 28, 2009. I think both of these progams should be reported to whomever. Needless to say I did not buy Mighty Max.

And we all know what they say about the word "assume", don't we? a*s/u/me.
You're the reason people should be given I.Q. and aptitude tests before being allowed to be alone with a computer or even allowed in the vicinity of one. It's small wonder shady or rip off companies can thrive, or even legitimate online services have their names besmirched... People who don't understand the first thing about how the internet or computers work and are willing to simply shell out at the first whiff of anything even presented to them as a "threat", real or not.
Pop up ads with a "sense of urgency" or DIRE WARNINGS have been around since the first jerk discovered how to make pop-up ads, and people like you fall for it. Those pop-ups are ads to sell you a product. If you stopped, thought and did a little research you'd have seen this.
Although, I suppose on a plus side, people like you are also responsible for a thriving industry of people who will come to your home and instruct folks on how to use the Internet and their computers properly, albeit with more of a "training wheels and crash helmet" mentality involved.
Why would a "computer engineer" have heard of the program? Comp engineers are actually trained to be competent and know what they're doing so they don't even have to contemplate using such programs in the first place. Certainly any engineer worth their salt is going to be able to keep tabs on and update their drivers in a timely fashion manually, as opposed to someone like yourself who thinks that "just because it works, it must be OK", but will jump when commanded by an outside entity to update your drivers.
As for "I think both of these progams should be reported to whomever.", well, you've already shown just how.... competent you are with a computer, so why would anyone even begin listening to your gripes when you fall for stuff as simplistic as pop up ads? Of course, since you're so concerned, maybe you can use hubby's credit card again to pay someone to report the programs to "whomever".
