Doctor Who Mega DVD Collection (Includes Al Classic & New Episodes) (556) ... the collection was advertised as a collection of every episode of Doctor Who, the complete series, on DVD. I ordered it on October 10th, 2011. The emailed tracking numbers October 19th and I received the collection befre October 27th. All in all, pretty fast shipping from China (which is where I believe the telephone receptionist said the company was based...by way of Germany...something odd like that).

Anyway, the next few days I started playing the discs (many of which looked rather grubby and dinted... like they were the lowest quality DVD blanks the company could find).  Only about half of the first 10 discs would even play... problems included jamming, skipping, jumping, and simply 'disc error' (I have an all region DVD player that works great on all discs... DVDs, VCD, DVDr, MP3, CDs... even overseas burned copies). I tried the discs that wouldn't play in my portable DVD player and my rgular Magnavox DVD player and they did the EXACT same flaws in those machines. So: not my machines, it's the discs that are faulty.

I emailed them. Emailed them numerous times. Finally on October 29th, a representative by the name of Rene at [email protected] replied... first with a song and dance about "are you using the right machine? Did you try them on the computer?" [the listing I bought from said they were DVDs and was informed they'd play in a regular machine]. I told her I tried them in different machines and that many of the discs were faulty. I requested a replacement collection because these were faulty and even looked used. More back and forth and finally she said that I should make a complete list of all the faulty DVDs and that she/they would replace them AT ONCE (her exact words)... she also guaranteed that there was no time limit, that I simply had to make a list and all faulty dvds would be replaced.. There were 190+ dvds in the collection and I went through and tried them all. ... and it took a lot of time and was painfully frustrating.

Anyway, 43 discs couldn't play... I didn't even check the Tom Baker and post-1980s episodes as I already had the commercial releases of them. So much more than 43 were faulty, but only sent her a list of the 43 episodes that I needed that wouldn't play. I emailed her numerous times over a week with no reply...  I even documented the exact problem with each disc. Not that it would have mattered because Rene's eventual reply was to ask again if I'd played them in other machines (Ugh! We'd already gone OVER that!!!). More back and forth and finally she replied that they weren't going to send replacements...that it was the only set they had and that their production department wasn't going to replace the faulty ones like she said they would.

I tried the alternate email address of [email protected] ... their response was less annoying: they didn't reply at all.

If you're a Doctor Who fan, all I can say is AVOID this faulty set and SHABBY, dishonest customer service. Not, the exact same titled 'mega' set is offered here and there throughout the internet (by seemingly different companies...renamed companies... but ALL with the exact same wording and formats so they are apperantly all the same shysters). I know it's tempting... every episode of Doctor Who for only $299... but what you'll get are nearly HALF the discs in nonfunctional condition, unable to play... many of the discs that do play are grainy and shabby (note: as you probably know, many of the 1960s and early 1970s Doctor Who master videos were destroyed by the BBC and so only 'reconstructed' versions exist... oddly enough, the almost unwatchable reconstructed episodes in this collection I bought actually played ok!!!).

I've been eBaying since 1999 ... have been doing mail order since 1983... and this purchase/transaction was one of the most frustrating I've ever had to deal with. The temptation to purchase such a collection is realllly strong... but just know what you're getting yourself into: bad quality discs and even worse customer service.
