Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was an employee of Fischer Brothers Trucing until Feb.17,2008 one day after having major surgery. While I was in ICU I was fired acording to their paperwork. Feb,17,2008 was on a Sunday. Their office is not open on sunday, but acording to the paperwork that was my termination day. That was also the day the insurance was canceled by Fischer Brothers.

I found out April1.2008 that I had no insurance when I went to fill a prescription at the local Walgreens. I had not been notified nor was I offered COBRA until after my insurance was canceled. When I called the insuranc company they told me to get in touch with Fischer Trucking, who had told me more that 6 times that I stll had a job, and as soon as the Doctor released me to notify them.

I called them late in March to let them know that I was in my last 2 weeks of physical therepy, and wanted to return to work at the end of that 2 weeks. I was told to contact the Safety Director, when I did, he told me I would have to take another physical and there would be no problem if I passed the physical and the Doctord released me. Then 2 weeks later I was told that I had been terminated. What they did with the insurance thing is against a federal law called the Arisa Law, My attorney will handle that, and the4 wrongful dismissal charges that we will bring.

I am a former driver with Fischer Trucking. I feel as though after reading what was said above, i needed to say a few words as it pertains to my experience with Fischer Trucking. I was with Fischer for over a year. In that year, I have been treated with respect and dignity and felt as though i was a family member. When i would walk into the office i was greeted with smiles from BOTH management and other dirvers. when i first started a man in a down pour rain helped me out who worked for fischer in the freezing cold rain and didnt take a dime for his help cause i was a ' brother ' fischer driver. I bet he was sick for days. my mother became ill in sept of 2008. i informed fischer of her illness and the management did everything they could to keep me on the east coast so i wont be far away when i get the call. i never ran west of iowa after she became ill. I was always asked how she was doing and if i needed anything. she has since took a turn for the worse and i left fischer trucking. they were very nice to me, treated me with respect and offerd me to return anytime should i want to go back on the road. i know people say that alot to employees, but i have spoke to a member of fischers management since i left and again, i was offerd a position with them if i decide to return. i will someday return to the trucking world. and when i do, the first call i am placing is with fischer. but not until my mother has seen her final day. i am reminded of what a man said to me the day i got my cdl back in may of 1996. he said one mans nightmare company is another mans dream company. fischer trucking was a great experience that i fully intend to feel again. i will go back to fischer when i am ready to head back on the road. i got miles, i got time at home, advances when i needed it, stayed on the east coast for 6 months after my mother had fallen ill. i am speaking 6 months, not a few days, not 2 weeks, for 6 months, management had kept me on the east coast so i can be close by, they didnt give up on my mother and they didnt give up on me as a driver. when other companies would rush to the fact to send me anywhere, they supported me and help me when nobody would. Sad part about my experience with fischer is that it come to an end to be more close to home with my mother as her life is now seeing the final curtain. her time is coming to a close and fischer allowed me to be with her until the end. if you are looking for a nice company to work for, please be reminded with what was told to me, one mans nightmare is another mans treasure. To experience a good company like fischer you really need to give them a chance and draw your own conclusions. I totally back fischer as a good company. i did on my first day, my last day and now when i am not there, they are a good company, good management in the office, you can't find anything better than that . bubba trucker

Fischer Brothers Trucking- No Loyality Or Compassion For Employees

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

Wed, January 21, 2009

I was employed by Elderlite Express before they merged With Fischers Brothers Trucking. We, Elderlite employees, were made promises by Fischers Brother Trucking that wasn't kept. Fischers Brothers cut our wages by as much as .06cpm(cents per mile) and made us a garantee that we, Elderlite employees, would make more the following year. They didn't tell us, that for us to make more than we made with Elderlite, we would be breaking numerous Federal DOT rules and regulations. In a meeting I had with the owner ,of Fischers Brothers Trucking, during the merger process. I asked him several questions in reference to the wage cut and the garantee made by him. I was told that Fischers Brothers had more freight and better traffics lanes. Drivers would get more miles per week with the merger. I also asked the owner what was Fischers Brothers policy on Log Book precedures. I was told to make it look good. Drivers tried it Fischers way, I tried it their way. I worked very hard for this new company. Fischers Brothers didn't care how you got things done as long as you got them done. I got really good at back logging and making my log book look good. On a slow week I would run 2500-3000 miles, on a good week I was running 3900-4600 miles. But, all this hard running came at a price for me, as well as, other drivers that I stayed in contact with on the road. DOT violations and traffic infractions was the beginning of the problems for drivers. After the violations began to reach the company, they(Fischers) started weeding the drivers out. I requested vacations and hometime together after 2 years with the company. It was granted and I wa ready for much needed time off. I was on my way back to Fischrs yard to drop my load and head home. I was contacted by the safety officer, to bring my truck to the yard and clean it out so Fischers could work on it while I was on vacation. Under normal conditions drivers take there trucks home with them. On my way in to the yard, I stopped by a friends house and left my stuff there.I dropped the truck off the following evening and went on what I thought was my vacation/hometime. I called Fischers Brothers Trucking near the end or my timeoff to check on the status of my truck. I spoke with my Dispatcher and the owner of the company. Neither of them would tell me anything, the owner took my cell number and said he would get back with me. Several hours later I was contacted by HR. I was told that they would n't be bring me back to work. Can you imagine, you go on vacation and it becomes an extended one. This is just my story in dealing with a company that has no loyality or compassion for the people who work hard for them.
