Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We read about some of the activities that were happening at Elmer Auction so we went down and did a little research of our own. Now it's true that the action industry is a bit unpredictable, but, Elmer Auctions takes it to a whole new level. The owners of the auction may not be that bad, but, the people they have working for them as Auctioneers are very questionable in their practices. One of them Stands at the most; He works up front and he usually sell his own items through Lot 40. He will spend a lot of time and effort talking up his own items, which leaves little time for the selling of items from other consigners. That in itself isn't all that bad, but, we put him to the test. One Friday a set of coins came up for sale under Lot 40, these coins where commonly known as Copper Nickels, this Auctioneer spent a good ten minutes talking these coins up, there excellent grading, thier rarity, especially an 1859. We bought the coins and went home. We brought the same coin back to the auction for sale, in the same packaging that we bought them in. This Auction waited until the very end of the Auction to put them, called them trash, and then his partner stated bidding and won the coin for a pennies on the dollar. Two weeks later those same coins were up for auction again under lot 40 and were among the first to go over the block. Once again he taked them up as the best thing since sliced bread. The owners know that he does this and they allow it there by ripping off the people who go their expecting at least a level playing field.

No axe to grind or part of a Gov't Agency.

First, there are very few rules or laws governing auctions in the State of New Jersey. There is no license requirement in the State of New Jersey to become an auctioneer. My partners and I just a individuals that go to a lot of auctions buying items that people hire us to find for them. They tell us what they are looking for and what they are willing to spend on the item. Then we research the auction house and then go to auction looking for the items on our list. Sometimes are list is several pages long. But, before we commit ourselves to an auction house as a regular stop we investigate the establishment, especially when it's in New Jersey, because as I said, there are little to no regulation governing Auctioneers in this State. When my partners and I see something that doesn't seem right we put our suspicions to the test and this auctioneer failed. Don't get me wrong you can find some pretty gold deals at Elmer Auction, you just have to be really careful. As a Consigner just know that you are not going to get a level playing field with certain Auctioneers. The Auctioneer that do the Tool Room, Rings 1 and 2 seem to be very good. The Furniture area is a bit sketchy.

- When someone starts off like this you really have to wonder what their true motive is for posting this report.

First of all who is "we"?  Then unless this "we" is part of some Government Agency that would have a reason to investigate them, you really have to wonder why someone who would have "no axe to grind" would all of the sudden just decide to do a little research on their own.

Of course if they are a public employee doing an investigation I am sure that their bosses would not really be pleased when they posted about an on-going investigation on a PUBLIC web site.  Even if this is some "private detective" I am sure that their client wouldn't be too happy either.
