I purchased carpet from Empire for my sons house on 7-15-05. Same day delivery? Try 7-21-05. They miscalculated the yardage and had to drive back to Cleveland, Oh to get more carpet from Akron Oh. 48 miles.

Each time my son and his wife vacuum the carpet, so much fuzz comes up that it plugs up the sweeper. So much the sweeper has to be disassembled to clean it out. I called Empire to complain and they sent out an individual who agreed the carpet was defective and needed to be replaced.

He stated they would have an independent person come out to verify before they could replace it. This clown came out and stated that all carpet does this and they would not replace it. Repeated calls to the company only result in statements that the independent individual stated there was nothing wrong with the carpet.

Over 2 yrs. later and same problem. They had the carpet cleaned 3 times since and the carpet cleaner stated he had never seen carpet "friz" out like that.He said the carpet is coming apart. He mentioned that we must have bought at Joes bargain basement and when I told him it was Empire, he just rolled his eyes.

I would never buy anything from this company again and have steered multiple people away from them by describing their non existent "customer service".

EMPIRE CARPET SHEDDING

The reason you have shedding in the carpet that empire sold you is the carpet is polyester sold on clearance from mohawk for about $2.25 a sq yard you should have bought from a private carpet store and either bought continous filament nylon or smartstrand they don't shed and they wear very will but you should expect to pay $4.50 to $5.50 a sq foot with pad and installation, nobody installs free or gives free rooms or installs whole houses for $39.00 you'll get in carpet exactly what you pay for.

Response from Empire

Filed with BBB and Empire responded with the following; We have contacted the customer at the time of the complaint. We have had an independant inspector to evaluate the issue with the carpet that the Fultz's are stating is causing the problem in their home. After looking over the results of the inspection, it is determined that the carpet is wearing normally and no manufacture defects were found to be present at their home. We have offered to the customer that they can have their carpet inspected as well and if the results were to be caused by a manufacture flaw or installation flaw we will proceed as advised to take care of their concerns immediately. Here is the conclusion from the inspector that was present at the time of inspection... Conclusion: In my opinion, as for fuzzing, it is a characteristic of this type of material, which is a staple yarn. With a low maintenance vacuuming schedule, I feel the material is performing within manufacturer specification. As for matting, I would expect the material to perform in the manner is is due to consumer's maintenance schedule. There are no manufacturer defects present. I responded to the BBB with: This is the same BS I received from so-called inspector. Has anyone there at the BBB bought carpet that plugs up their sweeper 2 yrs. later each time they vacuum. Folks, run like h-ll away from this outfit.

This is EXACTLY what they did to us!!

This is the exact same thing Empire did to us - we're on our 4th vacuum cleaner. They sent out their "inspectors" who told us there was nothing wrong with our carpet, that there was just "too much pet hair" on the carpet. I told them there is pet hair on the carpet because I can't vacuum without having to load the vacuum into the car and take it to the repair shop. They don't care. I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. I don't know if it will help but that's where I'm starting - we'll see. If you want to file a report, you can go to the Better Business Bureau online and there's a form there - it's pretty easy. Yvette in Atlanta
