Scammer contacted us using the email melissabecker17@gmail and phone number 605 888 6199.
They used to same old sorry story about visiting a sick uncle, out of the country for a few weeks but would like to secure the room by sending a check. We knew right away it was a scammer but decided to play along and see what would happen. They did eventually mail us the check for $2850 to hold a room we had for rent and asked us to purchase MoneyPak cards for $2200 and provide the pin codes to the shipper who was shipping the car and furniture. SO PATHETIC!!
We strung them out a for a week and told them a bunch of BS to keep the carrot dangling and then eventually gave them fake pin numbers (we made them up !! :)
They immediately began to text us to inform us the pins were not valid and asked us to take pictures of the Moneypak cards (which we never bought). It was at that point we told them we weren't stupid and we had never cashed their bogus check and we knew they were bogus themselves.
DO NOT CASH THEIR CHECKS...THEY WILL BOUNCE....THEY ARE FAKE
THEY WILL ASK YOU TO FORWARD MONEY HOPING YOU WILL NOT WAIT FOR THE CHECK THEY SENT YOU TO CLEAR. THE SCAM IS YOU RECEIVE CHECK, YOU FORWARD A PORTION OF THE CHECK TO A SHIPPER OR SOME THIRD PARTY VIA MONEYPAK OR OTHER CASH CARD AND THEN WHEN THE CHECK BOUNCES, YOUR BANK COMES TO YOU TO COVER THEN CHECK AND YOU ARE OUT THE AMOUNT YOU FORWARDED.
DON'T BE A VICTIM OF ONE OF THE OLDEST SCAMS AROUND.
