I ordered ceiling tiles for my garage remodel. They took my money quickly enough but it took another 10 days to receive an email stating the items have been shipped and have tracking numbers assigned. I checked the tracking numbers the day after I was supposed to receive the items only to find a report that the customer (me) had changed his mind, no longer needed the items and they were returned to the vendor.  I contacted Essential Hardware and was relayed to them I had never laid eyes on the product much less refused delivery. They told there was a "problem" with the shipment and that I would receive a refund through PayPal. Imagine my surprise that the "refund" was not for the full amount of my purchase but showed a charge of $71.18 for a restocking fee.

So, after numerous calls to Essential Hardware and a trip to the UPS handling facililty, here's what I have found. Essential Hardware changed their initial claim of "customer refused delivery" to one of the boxes was damaged and UPS returned the entire lot. I went to UPS to get their side of it and when I mentioned I was expecting a shipment of ceiling tiles, three of their employees perked up and joined the conversation. One stated that in his 5 years with the company, this was by far the sloppiest, thrown together piece of junk packaging he'd ever seen. Another added that not only was every box severely damaged, the contents themselves were cracked, broken and torn to shreds. They didn't even bother to load it for delivery to my house but instead immediately sent it to the return center.

Why does Essential Hardware think I should pay $71.18 for their incompetence?Why the lies? Each time I contact them the story of what happened changes. The lies they tell show no imagination at all. I thing a 5-year-old could come up with something more inventive or believable; they don't even care enough to lie well. So here's where I am now. My project has been delayed 3 weeks while these jokers give me the runaround, I've wasted numerous hours dealing with people who have no integrity and lack even the most basic business sense and I'll spend more time trying to recover my money from these blatant crooks.

Save yourself the headaches and shop somewhere else.
