Events and Adventures is a scam!  The contract you have to sign is very strict and controlling.  The company can terminate your contract for any reason they come up with--in the contract, you agree to be terminated for any reason that E&A cites, and agree to the reasons, regardless of what they are.

I was a member of E&A, and one of their "member hosts" (There is an event director that organizes the events, then hands off the event to an E&A member designated as a "member host", who has responsiblity to run the event.)

I had become friends with the event director, and at one point, was called by someone in the Atlanta office that my contract was being terminated without pay.  The reasons cited were that there were several complaints about me.  Now, E&A had not informed me of complaints.  Apparently, some people were allegedly asking if the event director and I were dating.  No proof of this was ever provided, and everyone I asked said they knew that we were friends, and nothing more (the event director had a boyfriend, and it just happened that he and I had the same first name).

E&A stated I was in violation of the following:

Section G ii "You attempt to abuse, use or exploit any Events and Adventures benefits of any improper, immoral, or illegal purpose"

Section G iii "Your behavior, in Events and Adventures sole opinion, threatens or may damage the reputation of Events and Adventures or may expose
Events and Adventures of any of its members to liability or harm"

Section G vii "You cause disruption or interference and Events and Adventures Events"

Section G viii "Events and Adventures receives complaints from other members regarding your actions"

E&A charges 1600 for a 1 year membership, 1800 for a 2 year membership, and 2000 for a 3 year/lifetime membership.

When I got the notice of cancellation, I submitted a letter to E&A requesting a refund.  I had paid 2 grand for a 3-year/lifetime membership.  I requested a refund based on 2 grand divided by 3 years to determine a daily rate of usage.  The refund came out to around 1200 dollars.  E&A stated that I had used 1 year of membership, and deducted 1600 from the 2000 I paid, and provided me with a $400 refund.

From what I understand, getting the refund is something that was rather odd for E&A.

I'd really just like the extra 800 bucks I requested, which I feel is a proper refund.

E&A is not a scam, but can rip you off if the company so desire.

1) I wish to rescind my comment that E&A is a scam.  They do provide a service.  The service is very expensive for what they offer compared to similar services in the Atlanta area.  The contract is very strict and controlling, and worded such that the consumer that signs the contract has little to no defense in the event that Events and Adventures terminates a member's contract, regardless of reason.  In my case, Events and Adventures cited that I was in violation of some of their contract clauses, but no specific instance or reasons for violation were cited.

The attached letter is the "form" that I signed that E&A cites as my 'acknowledgement of misbehavior'.  The letter cites "special membership provisions", but none were provided in writing.  There are no attachments to this letter citing the special membership provisions.  The person cited in question on the letter is the event director, as I have stated in the initial report.

Reply to Events and Adventures corporate reply regarding my termination

I will be very happy to write out and provide the form that I signed on March 4th, 2009-for the writing on the form does not specify any level of guilt or acknowledgment of wrongdoing.

a) nowhere on the form does it say that members complained about my actions.  Nowhere on the form I signed is there a statement that reads "I acknowledge my behavior is disruptive"  Furthermore, the only time that E&A management informed me about any of this was 5 minutes before they had me sign the form.  E&A did not provide me with any documentation or specific clarifications of any infractions of their contract at the time I signed the form.  The only thing that was really discussed was that I would not say anything about the event director, which was something I was already not doing.  I assumed that as I was already complying with what they were asking, I signed the form, thinking there was no issue.

No specifics of any kind were given to me, verbally or in writing.  The form that I signed, in no way corresponds to the statements that E&A is referencing as reasons for my termination.  I will be more than happy to write out the details or scan the form I signed.

After I was terminated, I did not attend any E&A events.  E&A cannot prove that I was there, and as I was no longer a member, I did not have access to specific times and addresses to events.    There was only one occasion where an E&A event was held at a Dave and Buster's private room.  It just so happens that I work in the mall where that Dave and Buster's was, and was at Dave and Buster's, in the general area, blowing off some steam from a full day of work at the mall (I had been at the mall, working since 8:30 AM, this was around 8 PM--I was still in my work uniform at that time).   Some E&A members saw me, in the general area, and asked where everyone was.  I simply informed them I was no longer a member, and I did not know where the E&A event was being held.

I also sent a letter to E&A corporate, via e-mail, requesting further clarification and a desire to get clarification on the specifics of my termination.  The reply I got was the letter that was in my original post.

Honestly, At the very least, for anybody else reading these statements, here it is, clear as day--that E&A admits that they do not have to give you any kind of refund.  As per my rebuttal, yes, there are two sides to every story--and it appears E&A is fabricating some lies about my situation, and not very customer-service oriented to their paying members.  Either way, it should be clear here that if E&A is taking this tone, it is clearly an organization/company that you may not want to be involved with.

EVENTS AND ADVENTURES PROTECTS ITS MEMBERS

Events and Adventures has a very strict contract in order to protect its members.  We do not terminate a contract or cancel a membership without cause.

Our Membership Agreement clearly states that we reserve the right to cancel/revoke Membership without a refund of any prepaid fees for the exact reasons this past member states: (1) Your behavior in E & As sole opinion, may expose E & A or any of its Members to liability or harm.

(2) You cause disruption or interference at any E & A events.

There are always two sides to every story.  This member was truly aware of why his membership was terminated.  He was told on numerous occasions that other members complained about things he said and did made that them very uncomfortable and on March 4, 2009 he signed a document acknowledging that fact.  E & A gave him more than enough information about his behavior and the benefit of the doubt.  He was allowed to stay a member, until it was recognized that his behavior did not change. We have many letters from other members stating such. After he was terminated, he continued to show up at events and be disruptive. As the Membership Agreement  does state that we reserve the right to cancel without a refund, giving him back $400 was generous.

We stand behind our strict policy of protecting its members and the right to cancel a membership.
