I have used the tanning lotion called Fake Bake before without any issues; however, the last two times I used it, I broke out in hives and a rash. I wasn't sure what the hives were from the first time, so I put it on again and sure enough, I got hives again. This time, it is so bad, that my skin is cracking and burning like someone is holding a cigarette to my skin.

Last Friday, September 25, 2015 I took a shower and then applied the Original FakeBake Luxurious Golden Bronze Self-Tan Lotion Streak Free Easy Application that I purchased in the 170 ml/6 fl.oz.e  I put it on the night before and then I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning and washed this off, I noticed that my eye lids and the lower portion of my eyes were swollen. I then noticed my face was blotchy and was starting to burn and itch. A little later, my neck and chest area turned bright red as well as my arms and the tops of my hands. These were all the same areas I placed the self tanning lotion Fake Bake on. I did not place Fake Bake anywhere below my chest area, so no other area on my body was affected. As the day wore on, I could feel my skin continuing to burn - it was as if I was still in the sun burning away! This stuff just wouldn't shut off in spite of me having washed it off - it continued to burn my skin away. The next day, it was still eating into my skin! I bought some Benedryl cream and it did absolutely nothing. I bought Benedryl pills and they too did nothing! I laid in agony burning two days later!

I contacted Fake Bake and all I got was an apology and she tried to blame it on something else I mixed it with - which was NOTHING! I took a shower before I put this stuff on before I went to bed.

My skin is so bright red now that it is cracking and burning.

Below is the letter I received from the company.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing I have? PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE!

Subject: Allergic Reaction

Dear Sir:

I purchased a tube of the FakeBake Original Self Tan Lotion and for the second time, my face and chest broke out in hives. My eyes are totally swollen and I'm off to the drug store for Benedryl cream. I used to use your tanning lotion all the time without any issues, but lately when I purchased it, all I get are huge hives on my eye lids and under my eyes. Did you change your formula?

Good Afternoon Peggy!

I am sorry to hear that you have been experiencing this issue with our Original Lotion. We have not made any changes recently to this product so I’m not sure exactly why this is happening to you. Have you made any changes to the other products that you use on your face and neck? Sometimes an ingredient in other products can clash with ours but it doesn’t happen very often. That’s one of the reasons why we recommend exfoliating before using our products, to make sure that you get off any product that may still be on your skin.

You could also try using a different product of ours, we offer a number of options with different formulas. We do always recommend doing a spot check before applying the product everywhere. I know that you had no reason to initially, since you had used this product before. If you decide to try it out again after making sure there are no products on your skin or you decide to try a different product of ours, then do a spot check first so that the reaction is minimal if it occurs.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Dear Ms Rangel,

I have not used any other different product then I had been using for years and nothing was mixed with your product.

I have researched the Internet and have found others got hives too.

I will have to end up going to the doctor, because this issue is out of control. I have never had anything like this happen to me before and I wonder why all of a sudden now.

Please send me any information regarding ingredients that would be helpful to the doctor. This is a pretty serious thing.

This is extremely unusual. This is like my skin is burnt. I honestly think that there is an issue with some ingredients here.

Hello Peggy!

I sincerely apologize that this has happened to you. We have not had any recent complaints about hives that have been brought to our attention. I did ask a product specialist and confirmed that no changes have been made to the ingredients recently. All of the ingredients that are in the product are listed on the back of both the box and the bottle.

Again, I apologize that you are experiencing this and I am not sure what else could be causing it. I have talked to multiple specialists here in the office and nobody had any other suggestions outside of what I previously suggested to you. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you!

I feel that issue far much more serious then just an apology. If this is what this product is going to do to your skin, they by all means STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT, BECAUSE IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!

If any one else has had this issue, please contact me. This product should be examined by the FDA and taken off the market.

Thank you

I have experienced the same reaction to this fakebake product. It wasn't right away so it took me a while to really put two and two together because I used the product for about one month before it started burning my skin and still is affecting my skin. I have to take medicine everyday or it comes right back and it is something that is serious not a rash it's actual chemixalburns .I have to be seen by a dermatologist.I have hives all over my body and I have never had a rash or skin problems or blemishes in my life and it really has affected Alot of things in my life

I also got the same reply from the company and that's not fair .my medical bills alone plus the scarring and I have yet to find out all this stuff has done to my skin.i have scars and I am embarrassed

Is it ok for this company to get away with physically and emotionally damaging my skin and now my life? What can be done about it? Someone please help before it happens again .I'm sure their are people that haven't been able to figure out wat it was because like I said.it took me a while because I used it for at least a full month with no problems.so that was the last thing I thought was causing it but I stopped using it and it won't go away ...help someone
