FedEx Field Misinformed and Misled Fans and Were Unprepared Landover, Maryland
I'm so upset over what happened at FedEx Field during the weekend of July 29-30, 2011, that I had to complain immediately. I bought three VIP Hall of Fame packages for the Manchester United vs. FC Barcelona game. On Ticketmaster, this package was the ONLY one that claimed to have access to the VIP area with the opportunity for autographs. I spent the extra money for this very opportunity. What I witnessed that night was a horror show and became more of a dangerous situation than an enjoyable time. It was unorganized and the security did NOT do their job whatsoever.
We got on the field in the supposed "VIP area" and waited calmly and patiently for players to sign. To our surprise, many players from both teams were going to completely non-VIP areas across the field from us. To make matters even worse, when Barcelona players came to sign, people began to JUMP off the rows of seats above us and onto the field. This is when things turned ugly. I was pushed, shoved and trampled. I was screaming for people to get off of me, but they persisted. The ad board in front of me that everyone was leaning on almost toppled forward, with me going right along with it. I was shaking, trying my hardest to not fall over and as a short female, I felt especially threatened.
My brother, on the other hand, was hit from behind by someone who jumped down and had his glasses fall off his face. Security could not control these people whatsoever. These fans knew they were free to jump down without consequence. What made me even angrier was that these fans did not have the wristband and should not have been there, nor did they pay as much money as I invested in this game. I walked away with almost no autographs, as many players went to the non-VIP area and because I was busier fending off people who unfairly and wrongly got into the VIP section.
Needless to say, I walked away from this practice session feeling like I was misinformed, led on and ripped off. I'm disappointed and furious. I am hoping that FedEx Field will be able to rectify this situation in the appropriate manner. I have yet to hear from them and it has been a few days since I complained. A refund or some other compensation seems only fair. I really hope this was a misstep and that FedEx Field will do the right thing by the fans who invested their time and money in this experience. I know for certain I am not the only one this happened to.
I'd like to note that we approached security to complain at the practice. We were told, "We can't control the situation." That excuse just isn't acceptable. The situation wasn't acceptable. Please do the right thing by us.
