Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
we signed a lease with ffe and have been loosing money ever since. auctualy we signed 2 contracts. one a lease with conwell corporation and the second a contract for employment with ffe. after going over the contracts the same person signed both. I dont kow how legal that is. can a person work for both companies and not have conflict of interst? upon further investigation we could not find any company information on conwell corporation except that says ffe and conwell corporation are owned by the same people. the address on the lease for conwell corporation houses ffe. no telephone numbers or company directory can be found. we have decided to contact an attorney. i will update with more later.

Dude, don't be so obvious, you work in some type of administrative capacity with FFE.  I am a FFE driver and I say a majority(70%-80%) of drivers I've met and talked to who lease from FFE are not happy with their lease.  They either take home a meager paycheck or owe money after each and every week.  I wish the lease did have a higher success rate but it is far from that.  I'm happy as a FFE company driver but will not sign a lease.  Pretty all big trucking companies have a lease program that favors heavily in the companies' favor.  The drivers that have been successful have either a nice dedicated run and/or are trainers.  That has been my understanding from most drivers I've spoken with.

First off I would Like to say that there are NO Garrantees in Life and in Business. The Two Contracts in question, One is for the Corporation saying that they have control over the truck ( Truck lease only Agreement, The 2nd is a "Contractor Hauling Agreement" for FFE.   At the time the agreements were signed, The Fixed cost per week for this "Truck Lease only" were $750.00 ( $9,000 per year)

It doe's not take much thought to see that this is a option to a driver who doe's not have a home life as it takes 49 weeks a year to cover the expenses. I' am a OWNER/OPERATOR Leased to FFE and with a Monthly payment on my truck at $800.00 I do really good.   People who have Not a second of Business brain cannot make this work out.it takes real Work and time to make any business work and this person was NOT WILLING to do what it takes to do business.

Avoid "leases" with big trucking companies!! They ALL suck!

The original poster is correct. These leases with any big trucking company are all bad. They are slanted 100% towards the "company" and there is no "performance" clause at all on the part of the company towards the "contractor".

Actually, under both labor laws and IRS code, these "contractors" actually fit the definition of an employee as these impose "work rules", control the time of the "contractor", and provide various levels of financial assistance and equipment, and supplies to the "contractor". All of these things create an employer - employee relationship in the eyes of the law.

CR England was already busted for it's illegal lease agreements and several other companies are under scrutiny by several government agencies, including the IRS.

I URGE THE ORIGINAL POSTER AND ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS BEEN CALLED AN "Independent Contractor" to go to the IRS website or local office and OBTAIN IRS Form SS-8. Fill it out COMPLETELY and TRUTHFULLY and send it in to the IRS for "determination of worker status"..

This is the first step. At very least you can get your SS paid/matched, and qualify for unemployment compensation.

Always keep in mind that just because someone calls you an "independent contractor" doesn't make it so. Even if you signed an agreement. Makes no difference.

Don't let these big corrupt and greedy companies get away with ripping off hard working drivers. They prey on those without the proper education or common sense to make the proper decisions in business.

These "lease contracts" are totally one sided. They favor the company in every instance. There is no performance guarantee to the "contractor" as far as number of weekly paid miles, or rate per mile. MOST of the freight is being run at LESS THAN what it costs to operate the truck!

These So-Called Contractors are just Sour Grapes, At FFE you must do your Job, You Must do what they expect of you, they DO NOT allow you to do anything Illegal, As far as Being "leased" to 2 company's, that is A load of crap, Conwell Corp is FFE.

These So-Called Business People don't know how to do business and should return to driving Company trucks because they have NO CONCEPT on how to run their own Business and More Likely were turning down loads, Running too fast and Burning up their profits in Fuel ( cannot run like you could 20 years ago) and taking too much time off.
