Christy, it's unfortunate this happened to you. The industry is so full of scam movers, that the only real way to insure things like this don't happen to consumers is to go with one of the major full-service moving companies out there, or to just do the move yourself. Unfortunately, the damaged items will probably be reimbused at a value of $0.60 per pound which won't come close to reimbursing you for the value of the items damaged. Anthem Claims Mgmt., IMHO, has no incentive to help you, as they are paid by the moving company to settle any and all claims for the least amount possible. The DOT has very little enforcement capability at this point, and law enforcement agencies you contacted lack the jurisdiction to enforce anything with regards to interstate moves (if you had moved within the state - they could). I didn't read anything in your story indicating they might have increased the amount you paid over the quote you received. Usually, that's another part of the scam. In any case, this move cost you FAR more than if you had moved with any of the major van lines, and the industry will continue to suffer so long as people continue to use movers like this.....
