Oct 1, the last payment of $400 was to be taken out of my account for my Truck payment. Instead, 5/3 Bank removed $2570.07 on Oct 1, 2006.

I contacted them immediately expecting this new Bank in the area to correct their mistake. I was told that this "maybe" a baloon at the end of my loan. It was not. They stated they would have to research it.

3 weeks went by before they supposidly knew what the problem was. They said "It's not a baloon payment, it was forced INSURANCE!" I would have to provide proof of insurance from 2001-2002. Well, I did just that. After going through all of my paper work, I provided PROOF that I did infact have insurance for that year, but I went farther and provided proof through 2004. They said they'd get back with me.

2 weeks went by and I get the call that they know I had insurance and are awaiting reimbursement from the insurance company. How is this MY fault???

2 more weeks go by and now I'm in need of the money when a call comes in from the Branch Manager stating: "You now have to provide proof of Insurance to date, 2004-2006".

Okay enough is enough. This bank is never going to return my money! I'm on Social Security and they are taking it all.

Don't do business with 5/3 Bank!

Just be patient Jackie- I know it's pain in the rump but it will happen. I worked in banking for 25 years and forceplaced insurance is a BEAR to try to get reversed and reimbursed because the bank IS dealing with an insurance company. I know you'll probably say you don't remember, but they would have sent you a letter at some point back when this happened to let you know they needed proof of insurance. Maybe you thought it was junk mail and threw it out perhaps. Anyway, if they get no response they will indeed forceplace insurance- it's in their best interest to protect the property they hold as collateral for the money they gave you to purchase it. Just hang in there and do comply with whatever they ask, you WILL see your money back- trust me I've dealt with BUNCHES of the same situation over the years. I'll be fine don't worry.

Jackie, The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is the federal agency that supervises national banks. You can go to http://www.occ.treas.gov/customer.htm to find out how to file a complaint against your bank. If you have the time, you could also protest outside the bank (be sure that you are on public property) with a large sign that says something like "Fifth Third Bank steals from the poor!" Notify the local media (TV, radio, newspapers); they usually love to cover such events. Good luck!
