Just be patient Jackie- I know it's pain in the rump but it will happen. I worked in banking for 25 years and forceplaced insurance is a BEAR to try to get reversed and reimbursed because the bank IS dealing with an insurance company. I know you'll probably say you don't remember, but they would have sent you a letter at some point back when this happened to let you know they needed proof of insurance. Maybe you thought it was junk mail and threw it out perhaps. Anyway, if they get no response they will indeed forceplace insurance- it's in their best interest to protect the property they hold as collateral for the money they gave you to purchase it. Just hang in there and do comply with whatever they ask, you WILL see your money back- trust me I've dealt with BUNCHES of the same situation over the years. I'll be fine don't worry.

Jackie, The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is the federal agency that supervises national banks. You can go to http://www.occ.treas.gov/customer.htm to find out how to file a complaint against your bank. If you have the time, you could also protest outside the bank (be sure that you are on public property) with a large sign that says something like "Fifth Third Bank steals from the poor!" Notify the local media (TV, radio, newspapers); they usually love to cover such events. Good luck!
