Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
In March 2000 I opened a secured credit card account with FNBM to rebuild my credit and raise my credit scores.

Recently I started monitoring my credit report and noticed that FNBM has been reporting to the Credit Reporting Agencies that I have three separate credit card accounts with them which is untrue and reported payment history, amount due, etc for each account.

This error in reporting has caused my credit to be blemished and lowered my credit score. Needless to say, when I discovered this I tried to resolve the matter with First National Bank of Marin by means of communicating on the telephone, letters, etc and each time they would give me an excuse on the pending investigation.

I have since been denied a credit increase with FNBM which I venture to say is due to the investigation. Therefore, I have contacted the Office of the Comptroller about my problem with FNBM and awaiting the feedback from their investigation.

I advise others to report FNBM if you too have had trouble with the company and to spread the word to friends and family to avoid this company. Thanks for reading..

#2Consumer Suggestion

Mon, October 21, 2002

But, I guess all those of us with challenged credit kind of know in the backs of our minds that bad behavior by these card companies is a very real possibility -- at least I do. I don't like having to deal with them, but what choice have some of us got? What I would like to know is when are the credit reporting companies (TRW, Equifax, etc.) going to step up to the plate and say "enough is enough?" Sure, they can sit back and say they only report what is reported to them, but if what you say is true (reporting you have 3 accounts when you only claim to have one) I feel the agencies reporting bum information makes them as culpable in consumer rip-offs as the card issuers. Even if they were to adjust their credit scores to reflect ratings from "sub-prime" companies if might help. Yes, the consumer protection laws are there, but they are basically impotent and don't "protect" any consumer in a proactive basis.
