First Revenue Assurance Asking for money on behalf of Nicor Gas that was not owed to them; and, verified. Joliet Illinois
I have been receiving numerous calls from 303-595-8100.
I called them; and, they alleged I owed about $35 to Nicor Gas, the gas utility company in Illinois.
First Assurance had no account number, they could provide no invoice - in fact, the rep said he had to ask permission from his supervisor to see if he was allowed to fax documentation - and, the address was for a location I had never heard of, resided at, rented, leased, etc.
I called Nicor Gas; and, they looked up my account by my social security number. And, I only have my existing account; and, their records show I owe nothing more.
It was recommended to me to report First Assurance to the Illinois Attorney General, as well as the FTC. Unless complaints are levied to the proper agencies, not much can be done.
I learned a few things:
Don't give out information. Let the agency tell you what address they have on file, what the full name is on the account, what phone number they have listed, etc. And, request the documentation be faxed over to you. If you give them your mailing address, a dishonest agency would now have that information.
Once you have an invoice from the alleged creditor, you may contact them directly to verify if it is indeed valid. If not, then you have material evidence to file complaints with the appropriate agencies.
