I have been freelancing jobs via Freelancer.com for several months now.  Without notification, they suspended my account with outstanding balances to freelancers that needed to be paid and also with jobs posted.

I sent them ID they requested but they still want additional information about my relationship with one of my freelancer jobs that I performed.  I could just go to another freelance site, as there are many good ones available, but Freelancer.com is holding a several hundred dollar balance in my account and will not release it to me.

In addition, freelancers that I have hired are not able to be paid because I can not log into my account to pay them or give them positive feedback.

My account still shows as active on Freelancer.com but I can't access it.

This company is a rip-off that not only steals peoples money but that also keeps legitimate freelancers from getting paid.  I have looked on rip off report and find that I am not alone.

I am eager to join forces with others that have been used by this company to make them accountable for their actions.  I could just walk away and thank my lucky stars I wasn't taken for as much as some of the reports on here, but I am not wired like that.  I am making it my personal mission to let everyone know what a bunch or cheats Freelancer.com is.  The internet can be a beautiful thing!

My account was also suspended

My account (user: citimark, ID 1120768) was also suspended several times. Its frustrating when placing several bids and winning projects and next day you see account suspended for no reason.

I have about $250 in it and they don't let me withdraw it. Whether the account is active or suspended, one has right to get their money because they earned it.

To every, don't rely on freelancer.com, remember you don't own the account and it can get suspended anytime. Also the company favors employers in disputes. Whether you are right or wrong, one complain from employer can have your account suspended.

Stay away from freelancer.com.

#3Consumer Suggestion

I am in the same situation, my amount is 90 USD.

I suggest you make a complaint to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Here is the link to make a complaint:
http://www.accc.gov.au/content/maintain/create/index.phtml?contentTypeItemId=9133&informationSpaceItemId=268347&inPop=1&returnUrl=.&type=Other

Here is a link to the front of their website:
http://www.accc.gov.au/

Be sure to list Freelancer.com's address in your complaint form. You can find their address on their website:

Freelancer.com Suite
501, 35 Lime Street
Sydney, New South Wales
Australia 2000 ACN 134 845 748

This ACCC responded to my complaint within 1 working day, and said they were monitoring the company as part of ongoing trends, and would let me know what the outcome would be.

I suggest everyone that is having this problem with Freelancer.com report them to the ACCC.

Pressure from the authorities in their own country is the only thing that will make them change their practices.

I sent an email to the legal department at Freelancer.com. We will see if I get any response. How long has it been since you have not had access to your account? I am considering contact the venture capital firm invested in this company as well if I dont get some resolution soon.

No Money Back!!!

Thanks for asking.  I have not gotten anything back.  I even filed a claim with PayPal.  When Freelancer.com refused to respond to PayPal, I escalated it to a dispute.  PayPal then ruled that since I sent Freelancer.com money for "intangibles', I was not due anything back.  I thought PayPal protected it's users, but I guess they don't either.
This has been a real eye opener.

I feel for you, as your loss is significantly greater than mine.  I will join forces with anyone that wants to go together to get back what is owed to us and put this company out of business.  Keep me updated as to your situation.
