I applied for the position of Sales Manager that was listed in Sunday's February 20th classified section under Sales/Marketing.

I received a call the following Tuesday asking me to come in for an interview. I came in for the interview and was told I would hear from them the following week one way or another. The following Tuesday I was called by Laura, Isabel's(the owner), secretary that they would like to hire me and could I come in the following Monday, March 7th 2005 to get everything finalized. When I arrived I was told they were awaiting other people (sales reps for the interview).

I was confused but thought these would be the individuals who would report to me. Was I misinformed and misrepresented. I was told by the receptionist that this was a general group meeting of "sales people." I explained I was coming in for the Sales Manager position and that I am not into "group: hiring meeting as I was not looking for a sales representative position.

This was an ad listed under false pretenses. All of these other individuals answered the same ad as I did and all of us expected to be hired as a Sales Manager. This is pure bait and switch tactic as well as true deception and dishonesty.

I reported these circumstances to the Arizona Republic and the classified sales representative, Todd, who I spoke to said he took the original ad and said he was suspicious because the client never stated that they were the "Hispanic Yellow Pages." He thought they should run an ad in the hispanic (spanish) section of the classifed ad department or at least explain what they did and request bilingual sales people. Todd, said he would report the problem to the head of the department and they would take appropriate action for placing a misleading and illegal ad in their newspaper.

I know that they were looking for a new Sales Manager, because I have stayed in touch with friends of mine that are still employed by their company. If someone came into my company looking for a sales management position, I would have them meet with my current sales team. That's nothing out of the ordinary. If you had no chemistry with my team, I wouldn't have hired you. If you said "I don't do group meetings" I DEFINITELY wouldn't have hired you. It's no surprise to me that they decided to try their luck with someone else...
