Unfortunately, I placed my order with FurnitureUSA.com on 7/23/04. The web-site looked legit and I did speak with a sales rep. named Marsha Fulp. Guess others have spoke to her as well. She seemd pretty nice.

I was told that they would need a 25% deposit on some Broyhill Tables that I ordered. Total cost would be $516.00. So, I authorized the charge for $129.00 on 7/23/04. I was told that I would get some paperwork in the mail and that I would have to sign something and return it.

The paperwork showed up on 8/2/04. It included a receipt showing that the entire $516.00 had been charged. The paperwork also had a credit card authorization form, an order confirmation form, a printout of the tables from the Broyhill caatalog and the original quote.

I wrote to customer service asking if I needed to sign both the order confirmation form and the CC authorization form as both needed signatures. But, since the CC authorization form had my CC info blatantly displayed, I did not want to fax this back. This first contact to customer service was on 8/2/04. I then tried to write to Marsha Fulp, with whom I coresponded via email and phone prior to this with no problem. Her email came back to me as undeliverable. Here is the exact output:

I am trying to reach you about my order. Seems like FurnitureUSA is having some

problems? I see many complaints against the company and customer service is

unreachable? What is going on?

To date, I have written emails, left voice mails and faxed the company. NOTHING!

I started getting suspicious when my email was returned. Too bad I came across this site AFTER I ordered stuff from them. I issued a dispute with my VISA holder and they will let me know status within 10 business days. They told me to gather all the information I have and fax it to them. I will do so gladly.

Do not order from them!!!! I will be contact the BBB today as well.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!

The FBI and Secret Service need to hear from all of you to investigate Mail and Credit Card Fraud. You need to contact FBI - Greensboro 336-855-7770 and Secret Service 336-547-4180. We need to help all of the victims and put these animals away. Sorry, I don't see them as "human". What they did is inhumane.

It is a shame that they weren't up front about this and now appear that they are taking the money and trying to run

I called Broyhill, the manufacturer of the furniture I ordered, and was told by Charles Mclean (I have his permission to use his name), that Broyhill has cancelled all orders with FurnitureUSA, due to their failure to meet their obligations. I asked if these would be reinstated and he didn't think so. He made it clear to me that Broyhill was WELL AWARE of the problem with FurnitureUSA. So, was I charged the full amount for furniture without an order? This is not what was explained would happen by Marsha Fulp. I was told that my CC would be charged the balance if the items were in stock and the order was placed. I can't be sure that the order was placed. My guess is that it was not. ANd if my order was cancelled by the manufacturer, why wasn't my money refunded immediately!!!! To keep it is fraud and criminal!!!! I also talked with Kim at the BBB regional office in NW North Carolina. She indicated that their CEO went out and physically saw the sign on the door that stated that they will be open next Monday, August 9th. She also indicated that they have received MANY complaints about them and are checking the bankruptcy court filings daily to see if they are indeed filing for bankruptcy. Now, I personally don't think they were trying to rip people off, but I do think they had serious cash flow problems. It is a shame that they weren't up front about this and now appear that they are taking the money and trying to run. My guess, and this is just a guess, is that thy will reopen for a short time and then file for BK. Anyone with an outstanding balance with them would be wise to dispute the charges with your CC company.
