To all Active and Reserve Military and Veterans, I worked at geico auto insurance for 11 years and only had about 4 more years to be eligible for full retirement. Over the past years, Geico was good to me and had no problems with them until last year I had a car accident and got hurt on the job. Geico understood but not the new management. I really liked the old management but they went on to do better things.

When I took about 8 months off, never used fmla or anything. The new sales management at geico expected me to meet goals but they kept putting me on warnings. When I came back from my auto accident, work-related-military disability. They placed me on a pip, I met my goals and had the best months that I ever had but the new manager did not see it that way. even thou I sold 210 sales in one month and even after my supervisor took me off the pip, She said that I did a lousy job and she was putting me on final written warning and requested me to sign it and I felt it was not right and I did not sign it.

The next day I came in, I was originally on a high level gate to receive good sales prospective inbound calls but when I signed in, I was placed on the lower level which meant originally I would take a call every 15 seconds but now I would take a call every 15 to 45 minutes which made it harder to meet my sales goal. My goal was 145 sales and I hit about 210 sales in a month and she called it lousy because I did not meet my recall internet goals. I'm sorry, but 210 sales brings in money for the owner of geico and a manager who has been with the company which I am assuming for about 4 years but less than me, has no idea on what they are talking about and they should not even be a manager because they have a degree. I known supervisors without degrees have more integrity and knowledge than this person.

On October, 24 2008, I took a call feeling that I did the right procedure because I had the same type of call a year and half ago. I was called to the sales manager's office on November 10, 2008 and they stated that I did not do it right but I explained that I did and I thought I was doing the right thing because a year and half ago, the old management gave me kudos's. The sales manager went immediately down to hr and recommended my termination without my knowledge.

On November 11, 2008 might as well be a 9/11 for me. I was sent an email congratulating me on my 11 years anniversary with geico and thanking me for my military service on veteran's day. At 11:30 am, I was sent an email requesting to come to hr at 2pm. I thought, hey they are going to give me a certificate or something. I went to the meeting at 2pm and the sales manager who to my knowledge has been at the company for about 4 years to which I have more seniority than her, I was told that I was terminated and escorted out of the building by the bouncer but he was a nice guy and understood that he was doing his job.

TO ALL MILITARY, GEICO DISRESPECTED ME BY FIRING MYSELF ON VETERAN'S DAY. IT WAS A TOTAL DISRESPECT. Now I received a false text message from my old supervisor accusing me of something 3 wks after I was fired which was a lie but the manager defended her supervisor which I feel was cowderly and the supervisor should be fired as well.

It is now, December 18, 2008. I have received only one check for unemployment for 300 dollars for one week and that has been it. The job market is tough and even tougher for a person without a degree. I have sent over 120 applications and no response. I'm on the verge of losing my house, cars, because of one person who did not know the sacrifices I made working at geico for 11 years and being a team player and volunteering.

If any politicians is reading this, there should be a bill passed stating employers cannot fire on a national holiday plus in the major holiday season. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN AND I NEED HELP BECAUSE IF ANY VETERAN AGREES, THEY ARE A BAD COMPANY FOR TERMINATING AN EMPLOYEE ON VETERANS DAY.

Wrongful Termination

There must be something more to your story as a large nation-wide company like GEICO would not fire you for no reason.  Perhaps a negative attitude?  Perhaps you did not make your "sells" the way they wanted you to.  I can sell a lot where I work, but maybe not the way my company wants.  If this is not the case then why not take this to a lawyer who could help you get compensation?  They will not charge you anything and will tell you upfront if you have a credible case.  And perhaps get your job back or provide compensation enough to hold you over until you find another job.

As far as terminating you on Vet's Day, that was an unfortunate coincidence...I am wondering why you did not use FMLA if you were seriously injured in an accident? In which case if you are gone over 6-months they do not have to give you your same position/staus back.

I keep a personal file of all my work stats for the company I work for, just in case.  With this information you can provide it to a lawyer to prove you were a good employee and wrongfully terminated.

The people I know that work at GEICO agree their are a lot of politics (as with most companies) but standards and procedures are clear and straight forward.
