I purchased a German Shepherd puppy from German Shepherd Breeders in/of South Georgia. I was promised a happy healthy puppy, wormed and first shot. The puppy had diarrhea on the first day we brought him home. My vet confirmed he was infected with hook worms as well as Coccidia. He was initially treated, rechecked, and now on a 10 day round of meds. He still has diarrhea. I contacted the owner, Cindy Strickland, to inform her she has a health problem in her kennels and was advised to return the puppy for a full refund. I advised her I couldn't do that. I ve fallen in love. My house and yard is a concern with the spread of Coccidia as well as the health of the canine at German Shepherd Breeders in the South and future puppies and owners.

Coccidia is merely a stomach/intestinal parasite that lives in the soil. It is found mostly in young puppies because they are the ones that dig the most. It is not a major problem or disease and is easily treated with an oral antibiotic for the puppies. True, the parasite remains within the soil, but can be found in the soil in the most unlikely of places. Of course, finding you have a litter of puppies with a parasite that was unknown to you for years is upsetting and of great concern. However, it is not the great problem inplied by this complaint, and, as the purchaser of the new puppy stated, he or she loved the puppy too much to return it to the breeder.

I bred dobermans for 14 years, and any breeder worth their salt will accept a puppy for return regardless of the reason. I have only had 3 of my puppies/dogs returned to me and each was due to unavoidable circumstances within the family unit involved and/or their circumstances, being no fault of the doberman's.
