There are two Giant supermarket chains, one of Landover, Maryland and one of Carslile, Pa. The original complaint was from Landover, and the first rebuttal was from Carslile. Both companies are owned by Ahold USA, but are seperate entities. Many Gaint-Landover associates are members of the UFCW union, and I am not sure about Giant-Carslile. Also, layoffs do not make the manager's bonuses any bigger.

I've worked for Giant for almost 5 years and have never had a problem with the company in any way. First, you said you joined the union, to my knowledge Giant has never been a union. Maybe things are different there in Vabut here in Pa it was never a union. If they ask you if you want to go home and you say "Yes" they do not have to pay you. By answering yes you volunteered, you could have said "No" if you wanted to get paid. Also after 4 hours if they send you home they don't have to pay either. (That I"m not entirely sure about) As far as Not showing up because they didn't tell you your schedule well that your own fault. It's your responsibility to get your hours for the next week and let someone know if there a problem with it.
