Purchased a 2013 BMW X3 from this dealer in December of 2016.

Immediately after brining the vehicle home, the check engine light came on the vehicle began shifting poorly.

I notified the dealer immediately.  The next day, a transmission malfunction light came on.  BMW dealer

said it needs a new transmission - $10,600!  The dealer asked me to bring the vehicle down to San Antonio to their mechanic.  I spent an entire day loading it on a flatbed and delivering it.  I was stuck and had to use their mechanic as they were indicating that they were going to contribute at least some of the money towards the repairs.

Their mechanic is now telling me $2400, which includes a bad battery.

The dealer told me flat out that if I drove the car off their lot and the transmission fell off it in front of their lot, that's my problem.

These guys are just your typical sleazy used car dealer.  They say what they you want to hear to close the deal, and it appears that they spend time polishing a car but not checking it out mechanically.

Avoid this dealer at all costs!

1.  So you are just some random user that trolls uploaded reports and files rebuttals?  Or are you affiliated with this business?

2.  It is not "well known" that these European cars are money pits.  That is also a non sequitur.

3. The car was purchases as is, and yes, I test drove it multiple times.  A fact that I neglected to mention was that when I was test driving it, I asked the salesman (Joe) what they would do if the sun roof started leaking in a week or two when it rained.  He assured me that they'd take care of me.

The net is, there is what's legal, and what's right.  If someone drives a car off of a used lot and it fails immediately, the dealer is MORALLY obligated to assist, if not legally.  That is not a problem that developed under new ownership - it is an existing problem.  That is all I'm pointing out here - they sold me a car with an existing, bad problem, either knowingly or unknowingly.  I'm not even looking for them to foot the entire bill.  The battery was bad for pete's sake!

The dealer had me put the car on a flatbed, with tie down chains, and spend a day driving it to their mechanic.  The salesperson intimated that they were willing to absorb some of the costs.  Now when the bill arrives, the son hides behind his dad, and his dad is just the horrible stereotype of a used car salesman.

These are facts - people can decide to do business with them or not.  At least they will be informed.

A number of FACTS are important here. First--it is WELL KNOWN any of these used European cars are a money pit. You could have and should have done your homework and you would have determined that very quickly into your research. Secondly--you make it sound as if this problem happened as soon as you drove the car off the lot. Did you even bother to test drive it? Thirdly and most importantly, if you bought this thing "As Is", you are not ENTITLED to free warranty service.

Since you act so surprised the dealer told you this was your problem to take care of, it's a dead giveaway you failed to read the disclosure statement which told you there was either a warranty or there wasn't a warranty. If there was no warranty then all repairs are your responsibility. If there was a warranty and the transmission was included in coverage and the dealer failed to honor that warranty, then you would have a very nice and interesting case. However, I suspect this was an "As Is" sale and the dealer was correct in telling you the repairs are YOUR responsibility!
