I attended GCU to complete a BA after obtaining an associates degree at a local community college.  I had attended ASU and several other institions in the past and I have never had the issues that I have experienced with GCU.  

 

First you are assigned a student advisor that helps you pick your classes and set everything up for you. Fine.  Well during my time here my student adviser changed so frequently no one knew what they were doing.  Again, Fine, I get it maybe a stressful job with high turn-over.  Finally I had the same adviser long enough to hammer out a class schedule and plan and to assist with finicial aide.   Good.  Then things got weird I was told that the school may request more finicial aid than is needed "just to be safe." and if I got any checks in the mail just return them to GCU.  

 

Okay, I get that you don't want to stend the cash that you are being provided for finicial aid...You'll end up paying for it one way or another.  So I'm finishing my classes...no problems.  I finish my last class. No problems.  A month after I finished my last course I attempt to request an official transcript to continue my education at a physical university near me...Problems.

 

According to my account 3 weeks after my last class with my account balance of zero up until that point shows that the school issued me a check for over $2,000.  So it claims I owe GCU over $2,000.  What?!

It won't allow me to submit a request for official transcripts because I have a high account balance! 

So I called and they said "Yeah, huh, that is weird."  But of course they couldn't do anything about it on that day, "We'll look into this and call you back first thing tomorrow." Guess what? NO call.  I called and they said well we have not started an official investigation yet..."you know the finicial department is really busy"  Mmmm okay.  Another day goes by...nothing.  Not even an update.  I call to check and they tell me my adviser is out of the office and since there wasn't a "ticket entered or any notes in the system" they couldn't help me. 

 

Bottomline:

It's been over a week now, and they openly admit that it was their mistake and that there is nothing that I can do to fix or change anything....but still I am being punished for their mistakes!  I may miss the deadline for another college due to mistakes that GCU made and they are doing nothing to fix the problem!  

 

Stay away from this college.  They are for profit and all they care about is your money.  The classes were a joke.  If you just want to pay for a piece of paper then maybe it's right for you.  If you actually want to learn and be treated like a person rather than a sucker with a dollar sign on your head go somewhere else.
