On 7/3/08, I opened my email to read that I had JOINED a company called 'Greatfun.com'? As I NEVER join any of these little sidebar companies AT ANY TIME, I found this situation strange, if not questionable.
In order to be certain that this company KNEW that I DID NOT REQUEST MEMBERSHIP in their organization, and in order to ascertain how this company secured MY FULL NAME, I called the above listed number and spoke to the company representative ALVIN. Though ALVIN did present somewhat defensive when I reqested clarification of the email I received, he did inform me that I joined this 'CLUB' when I signed up for Classmates.com!!
I told ALVIN to IMMEDIATELY remove my name from their records, that I DO NOT NOR DID I EVER REQUEST membership in their club, and that I wanted CONFIRMATION that my name would be immediately removed from their membership roster.
I was then given a NUMBER to denote confirmation of my removal from the organization's roster. While I hope that this number will, in fact, remove my name from this company's list, I continue to be very distressed about the entire incident. That a company can secure my name when I registered with an entirely different organization is, frankly, terrifying! I provided billing info when I registered for Classmates.com. Therefore, if this organization accessed my name through Classmates. com I have no doubt that my billing information was also secured. This entire incident has been distressing in the extreme. It is most especially so post seeing this company previously reported on this website.
