Unfortunately, I have to use the Houston Toll Roads to get around Houston like millions of other Houstonians.  While I was doing my taxes, I had to get my total amount of payments made in tolls this year, but found my account was suspended.  I immediately called HCTRA to find out what the cause of the suspension was for.

I got a young lady named Pamela on the phone that told me should couldn't talk to me until I paid $1500.  I had her check the account # again because I was shocked at the amount she quoted.  I asked her how the HCTRA came to that amount and she started with Lawyer fees, court costs, administrative fees and I cut her off and said for what?  She said my payment didn't go through.  I had to change my card because of identity theft and forgot to change my toll account which was an honest mistake.  I asked the lady what was the toll charges and she said $156.  So I owe $1500 for $156.  This is theft!

I asked the lady if there was something that could be done about the credit card mistake and she said no.  She told me to hold on and she came back saying I could either pay the $1500 or I have to pay $750 down and the rest split up the next several months.  I told her I would pay the $156 in tolls only.  She said she couldn't take that and when I questioned her about refusing the payment she said oh I'm not going to refuse the payment so she took it.

The next part of the conversation I asked for a supervisor and she said there wasn't one available; I told her I would wait and she said it would be about an hour (haha).  I then asked her what if I don't pay the fees and she said I wouldn't be able to get my car reregistered, ride on the toll road, could have my car impounded if caught on the toll road, and even get a felony ticket. There tactics should be a felony!

I have been a customer of HCTRA for 20+ years and this is how they treat me!  I never got a letter or certified letter at that, that I was being sued or owed them money, or what ever they do to us.

We should have enough Houstonians that have been scammed by this company to get a petition together to either sue this company or get things changed where they can't rip off people anymore.
