HP Sucks

Sat, July 19, 2003

I just bought a HP 533C. 25 minutes after turning on my new PC it rebootd it self and didn't want to work. HP asked me to press F10 and do the whole recovery thing. Guess what it didn't work because the in house recovery was missing files. In other words HP will shipp out my CDs next bus. day (monday today is friday). This intun is costing me about $50 a day. This could've been solved by HP packing cds with their PCs and charging for them in the price of the pc.

HP Provides excellent customer service

I own an HP 753n computer. I am not affiliated with the company in any way, so I have no bias when I say their customer service is excellent. First of all, the recovery on the hard drive DOES in fact work, and it is not, as you say, "stupid." It is completely separated from the section of the hard drive you use and may have crashed, or whatever caused you to need the recovery. And if you call customer service they would tell you to press F10 as the computer is starting up to begin the recovery. It is very simple to run. I needed to call, because I needed to do a recovery on my system, and not only did they describe clearly, professionally, curteously, and step-by-step how to start the hard drive recovery, but they also sent me the recovery in CD form FREE OF CHARGE; I didn't even have to pay the shipping. I didn't even need the CDs, because the recovery on the hard drive worked anyway, but this just shows their desire to go above and beyond the call of duty in assisting their customers. I simply cannot believe they did all this for me, at one national telephone number for technical support, and yet they will do nothing for you? Try calling again maybe there's one bad operator.

hp is far better then the rest

i have worked on many computers and own a hp and a gateway. the problem is with these computers fyi is the oem software that is preloaded. if you want the darn thing to work right format that hard drive and install just a os of your choice ie win98se or win2000 as far as winxp and winme are concerned theye suck i have used all of them and win98se is thus far the best. now as far as a hp having 16 recovery disks is incompleate information the recovery disks that people are refering to are the os recovery disk and the system recovery disk the difference between the 2 is the system recovery disk has the drivers for the hardware and perifeals the os recovery disk will have the the os and the drivers for everything so everything is loaded using just this one disk and after all is loaded and s**t happens ie suposed 2 yearold deleated system files you can use the other disk to load individual drivers. for someone to deleat system files one would have to go into windows system files folder and would have to answer the qustion these files are system files are you sure you want to open this folder so i find it hard to belive. back to the point the other disks are not recovery disks pe say but software disks the true recovery disks are the 2 i have informed you about. and you can either go to the hp web site and download the drivers for your computer hardware and save it to disk as i have done for a backup or you can burn a copy of your recovery disks as i have also done and keep them in a safe place. now if you choose to format the hard drive and install a os of your choice you will need to get the drivers for your hardware first at the hp web site. when i say hardware i am talking about videocard modem keyboard soundcard ect you can also get them later after the new os is up and running. on some hp comps the modem and soundcard are one and suck but if you have enough bays you can replace them with better ones i will say that most likely you wont have enough free bay for this tho. now for gateway and cellaron pos the cellaron is just crap to startwith and a pentiem say 5oo mhtz will kick the butt of a 800 mhtz cellaron cpu now when i use the term cpu that is to say centeral prossesing unit. to call a computer a cpu is the term used by ignorent wannabe computer techs. anyways i got a gateway real cheep because theye said it had problems maybe the hd was going out i got it from rent a centere for 75 bucks why did i buy it you ask well my answer is this most computer problems are software related and if its hardware related the hardware is cheep enough to replace this comp had as i figured a software problem the problem was rent a center installed the wrong recover software into this comp and even gave me the disk theye claimed was the one for it lol so i formated the hd and installed win98se and my ip software and went on line and downloaded the drivers for it and it runs like a top. i have gave away at least 10 computers so far to my family and close friends that i got cheep due to owner ignorance and no i didnet rip them off theye had bought newer ones and these were just gathering dust some of them said you can have it if come pick it up. and some i got at discount stores people belive these socalled computer techs who say well it cant be fixed the motherboard is fried yadda yadda bs ie the report of the hp returned 6 times its the mem chip the morone is puting in it its either the wrong kind of mem or its damaged mem she stated she payed cash and dident have a recipt so she bought someones bad mem or she is trying to overload the mem ie puting more mem then it is able to have there is a max mem and it could be she is using the right mem but the stated mem is wrong ie my hp calls for 66mhz mem and max of 256 but pc 133 256mb ram works fine and with the other mem chip it combones to be 288mb and works fine so hp stated the wrong mhz of mem that can be used and the wrong max out and the cpu is stated to be 333mhz but runs at almost 500 mhz and thats oem settings iv not overclocked it. allso the specs for the pin placement on the motherboard is wrong according to the stated specs diagram from hp and oem settings i found this out because i was thinking it must be overclocked and i was right if there diagram is correct at there web site then my cpu was overclocked by them befor shipment and if this is the case i would suspect that theye might be overclocking them in a scam to get more repair work because if theye overclock it and it runs stable for a short time and then becomes unstable you have to send it in for repairs or you pay for tech support via phone and the techs have no idea that the cpu is overclocked and will sound like a dumb a*s after trying everything theye can think of and saying i have no idea whats wrong with it. so there you have it people in a nut shell. just a last note you should look for all new available updates for your comp and install them ie bios flash to update the bios and any other updates for your hardware you needand for those who have boot problems of any kind or just cant find drivers or just need drivers check www.bootdisk.com and www.startupdisk.com and www.driverguide.com good luck and have fun and stop taking advise from wannabe comp techs and if you want live free comp help go to yahoo.com chat computers and internet windows chatroom or add me to your yahoo im royal1bld and feel free to ask for my help anytime you see me on line when i only use that screen name when i am in the mood to help in other words im just not doing anything important so feel free to ask me for help.

I have a pavlion and all you need to do is press the f10 at the hp logo screen to access the recovery and if your HD dose crapout the cds are avaiable for $9.99. I was told HP went this way due to large number of cd's being damged/lost by customers , being removed / stolen out of boxs at the store or not being returned and disks missing updates because they are shiped at time of manafacturing. having fixed enough big name computers I think this a a much better system I cant tell you how many customers I've had with scrached or missing cd's and then having to order them any way at a much higher cost because ther replacing something they recived in good codition (some pavilion's have 16 recovery cd's ! try keeping track of all that in a house with kids!)

Recovery disk & ...All companies are the same,

#12Consumer Suggestion

Not all computers need recovery disks. Some systems are programed to atomatically kick in when system is down. I have own three differnt computers. Two of which had recovery disks. One didn't help! It still crashed! This was a compaq. Compaq is one of the worst brands to recommend. There systems have a reputation of crashing within a year. In my case two weeks. Gateway gave me the same problem. I now own a Hewlett Packard. It is the best computer I have ever owned. I have used the recovery disk only once. That was to recover system files that were accidently erased by a 2 year old. You may never need to use it.

As for customer service. All companies are the same, I have never heard of one that has ever given correct information or has been at all helpful. It is not just HP. Compaq, Gateway, Sony, etc. have been just as bad. Remember that the people on the other end of the line know just as much as you. They are not the constructor of the computer and probably don't even know how to use them.
