Hibernia National Bank reopens closed accounts and processes debit card charges Lafayette Louisiana
I closed my checking account in Sept. 2000. In April 2000 they reopened the account to allow America Online to charge monthly fees (another closed account). This was unknowned to me until I tried to open an account in late 2000, Hibernia is unwilling to assist me in clearing this from my Checksystems record. Watch them they have defrauded me and will do it to you as well.

I closed my acct. in 1998. After AOL and MSN both were charging $18.95 each to my debit card. BOTH accounts from AOL & MSN had been cancelled 3 months earlier. I saw bank officer here " Laura Parker" she explained my only option was to stop payment on each charge to prevent further debits ( $24.00 stop payment on $18.95 charge ?????) OR i could CLOSE the account and then they would be kicked back int he future because the account didn't exsist. I opted to Close acct. Laura closed it RIGHT THEN, gave me my balance ( as I had no outstanding checks or debits out ). everything was fine UNTIL>>>> 4 months LATER. I got a statement in the mail said i was $98.00 overdrawn ! I called the bank, they send me to bookkeeping. Here's what they explained to me: When the account was close they did their "final audit" of the account. They found out they OWED ME $0.02 YES TWO CENTS ! The computer REOPENED MY ACCOUNT and deposited the two cents in it, as they MUST return any money to the depositor after the audit if they are owed any money. NOW, after they deposited the TWO CENTS, they IMMEDIATELY charged me the $4.95 monthly account fee because the acount was below min. balance, THEN charged me the $24.00 because the $4.95 was NOT in the account and therefore I had to pay a NSF fee. In the meantime, all the while AOL & MSn were both charging the $18.95 feees ( they claimed it could take up to 6 months for their systems to purge my cancellation and stop billing me ( but i would receive credits for any future billing)) HIBERMIA had PAID them BOTH the same month in " an effort to keep from embarrasing me because the money wasn't in the account"... NATURALLY they added $24.00 NSF per payment ! I* feel I owe them NOTHING! I didn't ASK them to repopen the account for the 2 cents, and find out later they could have mailed me a check for the same amount instead of reopening the account. TO DATE they refuse to do ANYTHING for me and have put me in Chexsystems.making it hard but not impossible to get a checking account anyplace else. These peopel care NOTHING about their customers, only about their profits ! AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS !!!
