I bought a vaccum cleaner from Home Depot. I had to return it because it was too heavy for the person I bought it for. I had all the paper work that came with the product as well as the original box that it came in. They were looking great, since it wasn't used much, just tried out. I lost the receipt, which I am still looking for.

When I took the product to the store, they refuse to give me a credit, saying that their policy on returns have changed and that they do not give credit to products with out a receipt.

See the link below to see their return policy. It states that "Returns without a receipt: A store credit or credit to a Home Depot Commercial Credit Account may be issued based on the lowest selling price of the returned merchandise". So, is this a rip off or what??

I contacted their customer support and I will let you know of the outcome when I find out. Meanwhile, this is just one of the many bad interactions that I have had with Home Depot. If anybody has any stock in this company, better reconsider it.

The return policy also states that the Home Depot has the right to refuse any return at any time for any reason. So quite griping and read the rest of it.

Hi Sorry about your headache. I used to work for HD about four years ago. Then, we'd take back anything anytime. The sales associates would deny customers returning damaged, old and clearly used and worn items. If the customer was even more ballsy, they'd demand to see the manager. It's the MANAGER who would accept a return depending on the situation. Usually they did. They were that stupid. The MANAGERS are who really are to blame for the return abuse and now subsequent inconsistent policies. The scammers would scam the managers and the managers would gladly refund much to the floor associates chagrin. Anywho. They changed all that. They DO accept without a receipt, but give store credit. You must not have either asked for a manager or got uninformed floor employees and actually accepted what they told you. Did you speak to the actual manager? Perhaps you should have taken it higher while still in the store instead of going home and still having to deal with it. If anything, I would have merely driven to the next Home Depot close by and returned it there. OR I would have come in the VERY NEXT day at the opposite time of day (different shift) and returned it then. Good luck!
