Gateway Learning - Hooked On Phonics, $4,600 Settlement Per FTC's Howard Beales, Director Of Bureau Of Consumer Protection our tax dollars at work, paying FTC director of consumer protection salary for $4,600.00 settlement for violating Hooked on Phonic's own privacy policy/selling "list" to marketing Co's. Internet
Gateway Learning/Hooked on Phonics fined $4,600.00 , the amount they sold the customer list for, for violating their own Consumer Privacy Rules.
FTC's Howard Beales, director of bureau of consumer protection really earned his salary with this settlement!!
What about all the $$$ made by the companies that bought the list? how much did they make from using the 'protected' individuals, who did they sell their list to?? and for how much??
the data that was sold by Gateway Learning/Hooked on Phonics included info about the children of the consumers of their product. Consumers who when they made purchases, were guaranteed that Hooked on Phonics would not reveal personal info.
Hooked on phonics later amended their privacy policy, but did not delete names of consumers previously guaranteed that privacy was protected when they rented and later sold consumer info.
