we went to get our taxes done at h&r block and we were pre-approved for the RAL and instantly recieved a check for $535. our preparer stated that we should recieve the rest in two different checks within 48 hrs.

it has now been more than a week since we received thier services. we also got a automated message stating that our check was ready and we could come pick it up. the manager could not explain why this had happened and could not give a # to call household and talk to an actual person.

we called the automated line for household for information concerning our refund check. when we followed the instructions the message stated that we were not approved due to an offset with the irs. they gave us an automated # to call the irs and find out what it was.

when i called the automated line i followed instructions and the recording stated that we did not have any offsets with the irs. i then decided to call the irs directly so that i could speak to an actual person.

when i called the irs, i spoke to someone who could not tell me what the offset was, but she could verify if we did indeed have an offset with the irs. she verified that we did not and never have had an offset with the irs or any other government agency.

when i called household to let them know they refused to tell me why they showed an offset and why we were denied approval for the ral.

the h&r block office manager seemed so sincere and promised that we were to get our refund by 2/14/03. we will see what happens. according to the previous reports it does not look good.

we too were counting on our refund to catch up our debts and we do not know what to do. if anyone knows how to help us please let us know.

I would like to appologize to the staff of H&R block

I would like to appologize to the staff of H&R block. in fact i was wrong to blame you. the real problem after about 1000 calls to the irs, fms, household, h&r block, i am able to determine that household or imperial capital bank is at fault. they run you around in circles blaming everyone but themselves. I talked to a girl named Tiffany at household who stated that "h&r block is going around putting crazy things in all of the customer's heads. we don't know what customers are talking about when they call in after h&r block has filed the taxes". I then knew it was not the fault of the company i blamed. I called the canton office of hr block and told the lady there what my conversation proved. There is no way that one company should blame another company when they are working TOGETHER to Preform a service. my appologies, hr block. however i am filing a claim with the better business bureau involving Household lenders, imperial capital bank.

do not hold HRB responsible

based on what you described you were approved for an instant refund anticipation loan (IRAL) the proper procedure is you walk out with a check pick up a second check the next day and a third one 2 weeks after that. individual offices do not have a number for Household that will allow you to talk to a live person. All we have is the number that you were given. I ask that you do not hold HRB responsible for what happened to you. We are only responsible for transmitting your information. We have no control over what the IRS or Household bank does. And i'm sorry to admit that there is nothing we can do to help clients like you who end up in a situation like yours.
