Home Security Of America Denied Malfunctioning Refrigerator and Freezer Claim Madison Wisconsin
On 8/15/08, my wife and I purchased the home at: 15075 W. Maple Ridge Road, New Berlin, WI 53151. The refrigerator and freezer were working fine. Home Warranty of Madison, WI was hired to provided home warranty coverage effective 8/15/08.
Over the course of the next several days, we noticed the freezer and refrigerator starting to malfunction. Fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator would freeze, then thaw. Food in the freezer would thaw, then freeze. Despite control settings in both the refrigerator and freezer, the problem continued.
On 8/20/08, I called HSA to initially report the problem. A technician appointed from HSA came out to look at the unit. We were required to pay a $60 'deductible' for the technician simply showing up to look at the unit. The tech. said the unit could not be repaired and would have to be replace by HSA. He said the compressor was starting to malfunction.
HSA denied the claim, saying the malfunction occurred before we moved into the house. We produced a home inspection report as well as our testimony that it was working fine when we moved in. Per HSA's home warranty contract, they are required to repair or replace a refrigerator and freezer should they fail after the inception of the contract date.
We have made numerous attempts to appeal the denied claim. In the process, we have received many different answers as to why the claim was denied while getting handed around to numerous claims representatives, supervisors, and legal directors. As paying contract holders, we are very dissatisfied with this company and have told many friends and family of the poor and unprofessional experiences we have had with HSA.
