Everyone can come to their own conclusion about the validity of this woman's complaint against our organization. I'm posting the correspondence thread between the 'complainant' and myself about her application to adopt a dog from Baytown Humane Society. This organization is considering legal action against the complainant for her libelous attack on a highly regarded group that for 10 years has done excellent work on behalf of homeless, helpless animals. There are important bits of information that the complainant failed to share with everyone! For example, The reason she gave for applying to adopt this particular dog is: "He is small and the color of hotchocolate. It is hard to find a hotchocolate colored small dog." Is this to be considered a valid reason for taking on the financial, emotional and time expenditure for another living creature over the next 8 to 10 years?? Also, the complainant said that she owns her own home, and the public records said otherwise. The question is posed because often renters will adopt pets and then have to give them up because the landlord won't allow them. The poor animal then winds up who knows where. We try to insure that the applicant owns the home, or if they are renters, that the landlord is OK with a pet living in the residence. The reports of Yelling in two different emails are ridiculous. The name of the true owner of the home is in all caps on the record. I literally copied and pasted it from the public record. I suppose that is her claim of my "yelling" at her. I did, however, actually type the words, "No One," in all caps in an effort to calm her hysteria. I would also like to point out that no one forces anyone to complete a form! If the complainant was unhappy with the questions or felt in any way compromised, she needn't have sent the application in to begin with. There are other salient points to be made, but I've already spent too much valuable time on this nonsense, and past sharing with everyone the correspondence between myself and this woman, any further time can be expended by our lawyers. To follow is the correspondence that ensued after we received her application, with the ONLY alterations being the removal of names and email addresses. This woman did email back another response, but it was deleted unread. _______________ In a message dated 4/4/2009 Central Daylight Time, writes: NO ONE did a background check on you or your mother! The name was found in public records, therefore, no privacy has been violated. It only indicates that you were not truthful on your application. I agree that you are much better suited for sending bikes than owning pets. Good Choice! "Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight." I did not give your group permission to do a background check on me or my mother and to do so is a violation of our rights, you need to put a disclosure on the the aplication page in plain sight. Now you are emailing it back and forth in an insecure setting, which is very unsettling to me and irresponsible on your groups part --considering there is breech of security on the web currently via the April fools worms. I am requesting that you shred my and my mother's personal information and delete it from your organisation effective immediately 4/4/09. Your organization has not listed a full disclosure of rights to privacy to unassuming applicants which your organization puts at risk for cybercrimes. I feel very violated that your organization is so careless with applicant information. In this request I would hope your organization will rise to the occasion and put the disclosure and intentions in plain sight on the application page. Thank you for your attention in this matter. Thank you for rescuing animals from death at temporary shelters. In lieu of adopting a family pet we will be sending bikes to Africa, via Unicef, which saves hundreds of peoples lives by transporting / distributing medicine. So thank you for being a catalyst. -----Original Message----- From: Sent: Apr 4, 2009 9:36 AM To: Subject: Re: Thank you for submitting the online pet adoption application for Yoda. You mention that you are self employed. Please share with us the name of your company or explain your self employment. Also, we are wondering who this person is: Thanks so much. When I get this information from you, I'll send it along with your original application to the Review Committee. "Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight."
