Hurst Harwoods owned by Craig Hurst, took 8,000 dollars from me to do my floors with Brazilian Hardwood.

I had my floors replaced, because a pipe had originally burst under my lamenent flooring. I then had called Craig Hurst owner of Hurst Hardwoods and www.hursthardwoods.com to replace my floors. The floors were then replaced and I was extremely happy with my new floors, however two month later the floors had started to turn black. When the floors had turned black I then had contacted Craig and had to argue with him to replace the boards. Craig finally replaced the floors, because I got on him. Two month later the floors had turned black again. I did not feel like dealing with Craig, because I had such problems the first time with him so I called my insurance company to make sure that there was nothing wrong with my house. My insurance company had sent out a leak detector service and the leak detector service found that there were no leaks in the house that in fact Hurst Hardwoods was at fault, because they never allowed adaquate time when they ripped up the original flooring for the moisture to dry.

I then had called Craig and had got him to come back to the house, I had told him what that the insurance company had said he was at fault. Craig then proceeded to kick a column in my house which to of my workers can attest too(I work from home)

Craig said he was not going to replace my floors as it would cost him to much money. I told him that he had to make good on his services as I have paid so much money to him. Craig then stated he would make good on his services and call me no later then Wensday the next week. Wensday then came and went so I called him on Friday and he said he might be able to carpet my house. I told Craig I did not pay for Carpet but Hardwoods then he hung up on me. I then e-mailed Craig through his e-mail in a nice way that he needed to resolve the issue, when I checked my e-mail he sent me over 800 emails of a blank contract. In my opinion this was done on purposes to piss me off. I just called him today and he stated never to call him again and hung up the phone. I am very dissatisfied with this company and believe they are highly unethical.

You mean the pictures in report #1 and report #5. Not 4 & 5. They are different pictures. See the 3" white base is in for house in #1 and there is none for #5. And no room in #1 is the same as the one room in #5. Not even close. Who is Ted?

Ted, i have no idea what pictures you are looking at because they are not the same house. If you would like additional pictures as proof i will gladly provide as many as you need. I do not and have not ever worked for Hurst Hardwoods or any subsidiary of them. I am a homeowner who is over joyed with a product and feel it is necessary to speak up about it. Here are more pictures as it was being put in and also one of the truely finished product.

I ordered 22 boxes of Brazilian Tigerwood for our bonus room and spent about $2300.  When our order arrived, we were surprised to find that the truck delivered Brazilian Cherrywood instead of Tigerwood.  When I called Hurst, the man on the phone asked if I was the person with the wrong flooring, and I said "yes"....  apparently someone else had also had the same issue?

I don't know what happened to the orders, but Hurst was very quick to correct our problem.  In today's economy, they could have tried to blame it on me, or to ask me to pay for the shipping of the right flooring-  they did neither.  They re-ordered the right wood and contacted me to let me know that it was on the way, and that I needed to attach a shipping RGA to the Cherrywood...  They literally had twice the $$ in inventory (and shipping costs) due to this mistake.

As for the quality of the 5" Brazilian Tigerwood-  it is beautiful.  If you order this product, I highly suggest opening all of the boxes before setting the floorboards down.  Out of the 22 boxes, we had about 16 very long boards (greater than 72")....  and about 20 boards between 60 - 72" long.  Some of the boxes were predominantly short boards, so if we hadn't sorted all of the boards in the beginning, we could have run out of long boards for the last part of the floor.

We will definitely use Hurst Hardwoods again.

seems odd

It seems very odd to me that the second picture in "consumer comment" #4 is the same picture of a flooring project that "consumer comment" #5 has....even though they are posted months apart and by different people.

Hmmm....is Hurst Hardwood behind that?   I can't think of another explanation, can you?  Not accusing anyone definitively, but it does make one question what's going on.

One negative comment, then several "positive" ones, many accusing the original complaint of fault.

Just saying.

Hurst Hardwoods Treated Us Great!

I have no idea what the situation was with the above story but our experience with them was great! We ordered about 1200 sq ft of hardwood flooring which arrived on time, in good condition and was such a great price that we were able to go with wider boards for the same amount of money. When we called up to ask a few questions, we spoke to someone with the last name of Hurst. My wife and I do all we can to support companies that are here in the USA and knowing we were dealing with a family owned company here in the USA made it even better.

I needed to put red oak tongue and groove flooring on an approximately 720 square foot room and found Hurst Hardwoods using an Internet search for red oak flooring. However, having read a couple negative reports I was apprehensive. Somewhat reassured by the company's rebuttal, I went ahead and bought their Gunstock 3 1/4" wide, 3/4" thick, pre-finished tongue and groove red oak flooring at $3.99 a square foot, plus shipping. The shipment arrived in timely fashion. The result after installation was that the room came out beautiful! Everyone--installers, the owner, tenants, and guests--was impressed. I heard one guest who has built several homes comment that normally the price for such flooring would be higher. Moreover, because I was wrong in my calculations on the size of the room to be floored by about 100 sq. feet, I emailed Hurst Hardwoods asking if I could return the excess flooring. However, the ends of the cartons had been opened so that the wood could acclimate to room temperature before installation, and I was under the impression that their website had specifically stated that only unopened boxes would be restocked. In response, Hurst wrote granting permission to return the unused excess flooring even though the boxes had been opened. The owner of the house, however, was so impressed with the red oak flooring that he decided to keep the excess and use it for a small room in another house. Whatever may have been the experience of others with Hurst Hardwoods, I was very satisfied with mine.

I just purchased the Bruce Lock and Fold Oak Saddle 3" engineered hardwoods from them to be delivered to my home. They are having a sale that ends tomorrow for a really great price. I had a 17 year old cat that was now well and used my carpet as his litter-box. The cat is no longer with me now and I have been very excited to find new flooring, but I could not find anything that I could afford on my very limited budget. I have read all of the reports about Hurst Hardwoods, but I am still very hopeful. I spoke with Craig, who took my order today and he was very nice and professional. I have cement under neath with no water leaking problems...the cat has passed on, and I ordered over 10% of what I needed. I am grateful to have found beautiful hardwoods that I can afford to install in my home. I will update on my experience with them, but so far, so good.

Positive Experience with Hurst Hardwood leads me to doubt veracity of this report

I ordered flooring from Hurst Hardwood for my condo. I was initially skeptical because the price for the flooring was one-third of the cost of the same material from Home Depot. After researching the company online and calling to speak with customer service representatives, I decided to order the material using a credit card that would allow me to cancel payment if I did not receive the promised material. I received exactly what I ordered. The material was delivered timely and in good condition. As advised, I ordered slightly more material than I needed so as to avoid the cost of returning damaged boards. While there were a considerable number of damaged boards, the amount of imperfect boards was entirely consistent with the percentage of boards the manufacturer (Bruce Hardwood) predicted would be damaged. By ordering a few extra cartons, I was able to avoid the hassle of returning product while still saving considerably on the cost of the material. The above post complaining that Hurst is a ripoff seems to be written by a 4th grader. I sincerely doubt its veracity. Scott C Satisfied Customer

TOTALLY UNFAIR, NOT TRUE, AND MISS LEADING REPORT

#11UPDATE Employee

Sat, December 13, 2008

This customer (young unkept kid that couldnt of been 20) employed us to tear out and replace his old laminate floor that was ruined by a pipe leak in the walls. He said the plumbing was fixed and we would be ok to install his new engineered wood floors. As a precaution we sealed his concrete before installation to prevent any possible moisture to come up through the concrete and cause moisture damage. After that step we installed his new engineered wood flooring. Everything was done to professional standards by me and another employee that has been with us for 10 years. A few weeks later the customer called us back up saying there was water damage again near an outside wall in the corner. We inspected the outside wall and saw a large crack where rain water was obviously leaking in. Even though we are not at all responsible for the cracks in the structure of his house we decided to replace the water damaged boards. We sealed the crack outside (which is not at all our responsibility). When we pulled up the flooring located on the other side of the wall from the crack. There was standing water on top of the concrete. We showed this to the customer and he said just to dry it up and replace the flooring that day anyway. We warned him that if he didnt permanently fix the crack it could possibly happen again. Well it did. He called us up about a month later and said there was more water damage in most of his floor. We went over to inspect it and a large area of the floor was damged again. We said he would have to permanently fix the leak before we would replace the floor again and also we would be charging him this time because it wasnt our fault. He insisted that it was our fault and we should have to pay for everything. His report was untruthful and totally miss represented us. We did everything we were supposed to do and more. He neglected obvious water leaks and thats what casued his problems.
