In April of this year (2008), I used Intelius to find the address of my friend, whom is terminally ill with cancer. The report was 14.95 which was paid for with my debit card.

This month, July 2008, I was reviewing my checking account and noticed 2 charges on July 23, 2008 for 19.95. One charge was listed as 24PROTECP, 20 GLOVER AVE. 800-211-9749. The other charge was listed as PMIDENTITY 20 GLOVER AVE. 888-840-6301.

I then did a search on my checking account and noticed 8 charges, since April, for 19.95 each, identified exactly as described in the previous paragraph. There were 4 charges of each, 8 charges in total for $160.00

I then called 800-211-9749 in an attempt to get all of my money back, since I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR ONE OF THESE PROGRAMS, MUCH AS LESS TWO.

Elam, the so calleD "supervisor" said he would refund my money for both of the July charges. He said that I signed up for these programs through Intelius and that he would not refund the remainder of the charges to me.

He identified the company as Adaptive Marketing, 9500 W. Dutch Road, Omaha, Nebraska, 68114.

He then hung up on me. When I tried to call back in, their slick answering system looks up your phone number in its database and spits out the recording "your account has been cancelled" and then abruptly hangs up.

I did not sign up for one of these programs, much as less two of them. I want Intelius to to refund all of my money since obviously they are the mastermind of this fraudulent scam. I searched the internet and found others with the same story as mine.

To answer your question: "It would be interesting to know just how much money Intelius and Adaptive Marketing have profitted from this scam." "And it also appears that the scam is what's driving most or all of Intelius' revenue growth. It's not clear what percentage of the $20/month is given back to Intelius (it's been redacted from the agreement they filed with the SEC). However, the company had $17.2 million in revenue in Q1 2007, and Adaptive Marketing accounted for just 1.5% of that. In the most recent quarter they had $31.8 million in revenue, and Adaptive Marketing contributed a whopping 38.9% of that total. Revenue grew by $14.6 million/quarter in the last year. The Adaptive Marketing scam contributed $12.4 million of that gain, nearly all of it." Intelius and Co-Conspirator Adaptive Marketing Quickly RETURN ALL FUNDS, Bellvue Washington

On July 29th, Adaptive Marketing returned, 2 of the 8, $19.95 illegal withdrawals, they made from my account. These slime balls were holding on to the end to attempt to keep the other 6 illegal withdrawals they made from my accont. I then called Intelius and unfortunately had a long long discussion with them about their activities. Germany Ford, Intelius, argued that Intelius was not responsible for the withdrawals. What do you mean you aren't responsible ? You gave adaptive marketing my personal information, credit card number, etc. etc. didn't you? Its ironic, isn't it, that you profess to be an identity theft company but you yourself have violated the trust you represent !!! Like Adaptive Marketing, Intelius held on to the end saying they weren't responsible. Finally after being fed up with the nonsense from Germany, I told him, ok, fine. I live just a few miles from you in the state of Washington, I'll be filing a lawsuit against you tomorrow. He says fine, I"ll show the judge the contract you signed on the internet. I said ok, and I'll print out the 200 complaints I easily found on the internet of others you have taken with this scam. Uh, uh, uh, let me talk to my supervisor. He returns and says we decided we are going to write Adaptive Marketing, in your behalf and try to obtain your money back for you. I said, NO, you need to write them in YOUR behalf. The remainder of my money was returned on July 30th. I am in the process of writing the Washington State Attorney General about this SCAM that is stealing money from hundreds of Americans. Just imagine the people that just cancel and forget about their losses. It would be interesting to know just how much money Intelius and Adaptive Marketing have profitted from this scam.

They offer TWO prices for their services, the *full price*, and the delux discounted price which, when you select it, you ALSO get ''signed up'' for the services you were charged for. PS- Loose the debit card. Use a (no revolving balance) charge card, so that you are legally entitled to file a written chargeback request when things go sour.
