After submitting a poem to www.Poetry.com, I was sent a letter stating I was a semi-finalist for a particular month, July 2002. After not winning I was also invited to a banquet in Hollywood, Ca. but did not attend. I did get offers to collect my trophy, medal and plaque but had to pay $160.00. I was o.k. with that since I wlso received a three CD disc with 33 "Authors" on it which was read by David Rose. Mr. Rose also read my poem at the banquet.

My complaint is that I was sent a letter by The International Library of Poetry which said it selected me and 32 other "authors" for a book that would be printed by December of 2002. The title was The Sound of Poetry or Poetry From The Soul.

I paid for two copies of this hard cover book but have yet to hear from the publisher and have also not received any such book. I want these people prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I would appreciate any assistance in this matter.

Finally, I also have since heard from two record companies in Hollywood seeking two turn my poem "Dear Mr. Commissioner" into a song. The asking price from this companies was $416.00 and $431.00. I refuse to pay out any money for publication of my work.

For the record, the names of these suspect companies are as follows: Amerecord 1680 North Vine St. Suite 317, Hollywood, Ca. 90028-8829 and Hilltop Records 17777 No Vine St. Suite 411 Hollywood, Ca. 90028

Sincerely,

Dan

I don't know if it is too late but many people are directly contacting the Maryland State Attorney General regarding this company. Also I have heard of a class action law suit against them. I can only tell you not to get your hopes up because these people are in the habit of changing the name of their company each time they are caught. This is a scam. I'm so sorry that you've put your heart into something to have it turn out this way. They have many names. If you are asked to buy something beware.

Library of Poetry, and Poetry.com both in Owing Mills. Both of them have the same M.O, nothing you publish will ever be bad

I do not believe there is a difference between the 2, they are both in Owing Mills. Both of them have the same M.O, nothing you publish will ever be bad, it will be the greatest thing ever. Your poem will have high merits, and in the end you can have your poems in an anthology, on tape, on a plaque, and oh yeah you can have a banquet in your honor. Catch, you gotta pay for this, you gotta pay for that, and you have to make arrangements to get there I think through them. Future thing, if you have to dish out any money then it isn't worth the paper you are typing the poem on. Some poetry contest ask for a small reading fee, or a one time entry fee, but never will they ask you to buy your work if you have won something.

I submitted a poem on behalf of my 12yr old daughter, and have also rec'd a "positive sounding letter" AND an offer to be published. Question: is there a difference between poetry.com and The AMerican Poets Society? I think so. I went to the BBB of Maryland and they seem to distinguish the two. The dotcom company is a member of the BBB and the BBB states they are in good standing, in that, they have responded to complaints in a timely fashion. the APS, on the other hand, are NOT member of the BBB and all the BBB could state was that there had been complaints. Finally, for those complaning about not rec'v books immediately. The letter i rec'd CLEARLY STATES that it will not be published until WINTER 2005. Ergo, i may send money in today - November 2004, but i know it will be at least 12mths before i get a book. oh yeah, a co-worker's roommate submitted a poem this year, and he brought the book into work last month. So, it was at least legitimate for him. I think patience is a factor with unsatified customers

I recieved the exact same letter from the library of congress, I too thought I had won something important! And I too want something done about this company and others like it! I love to write and one day hope that I hit the big time with something I have written! I try I send out things everywhere! Yet I am only let down when I end up dealing with a company like this one! Do you know how many fall for this?? I am not alone! And I want something done about it! I too paid for a book with my poem in it, except I recieved some stapled together pages with poems including mine in it! I could of made it myself, It was so poorly done I was heartbroken and felt like a sucker! I am about ready to just give up It seems No matter where I turn its just another scam ready to take my hard earned money! Why cant someone put a stop to these people! Post an internet list of ripoffs And slowly drive these Sharks ashore? I am only 1 that has been dishearted by this company And only 1 more asking for something to be done about it! How many more will hafto ask before it gets done?? Sincerly
