J Mac Radiator has more hidden fees than a Mortgage Compay! $39.00 for unspecified supplies, 300% mark up for antifreeze, $8.50 for unspecified fee, $112.00 to drain radiator. Put 51 miles on my vehicle and took two days to finish job. Offered to give me a ride home while my vehicle was being worked on then said their driver wasn't available. Over $600.00 to have new radiator installed. Will never use this company again and advise others to go elsewhere.

I wanted to respond to the rip-off report and claim that J-Mac Radiator has hidden fees and provide bad customer service.  I believe rip-off report is a terrible indication of a companies brand, service, and reputation.

First of all these review are pretty much anonymous.  I find it interesting that the reports are from an ex-employee and probably a competitor.

My experience with J-Mac was nothing but professional.  They sales guy was very up-front and clear on what was wrong with my vehicle.  They replaced my water pump, and flushed out my cooling system.  My vehicle has been running perfect ever since.  They even vacuumed the floor and washed my windows.  In my mind that is going above and beyond.  Much more than other auto shops I've been to.

If you want a true indication of a companies reputation, review some real sites like citysearch or yelp.

I have worked for J-Mac for three years, we have always treated our customers honest and take pride in our work. We do charge for shop supplies and hazardous materials as a percentage of the invoice. All the shop supplies & hazardous materials are posted in the office and can be read by anyone that would care to read them. As for a drain and fill we do not do drain and fills at J-mac we do cooling system flushes. That means we flush through the radiator, the engine block and the heater core and use a solvent to ensure that the system is clean before we install a new radiator. As for giving rides we do offer that as a courtesy for our clients but if my driver is already taking someone else home, then I will get you a ride as soon he gets back. If you wanted to buy a bottle of antifreeze from me I charge $8.95 for pre-mix, $10.95 for concentrate and $12.95 for dex-cool. If you have a problem with what I charged, you knew how much it was before we started you shouldn't have agreed to have us do the work. If there happens to be a misunderstanding I will try and do what ever I can to make sure that it is a win win for both the customer and us. Thanks J-Mac

J-Mac and 1-800-RADIATOR are companies based on being crooked.

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

Thu, June 26, 2008

As an Ex- employee of this company I am not surprised at all to hear a report of someone being ripped off. I am actually surprised that there has not been more reports or investigation into this. Besides knowingly dumping toxic waste into the drains and the ground this company has been taking advantage of people for years. The owner would buy seconds and damaged Radiators and re-box or refurbish them and then sell them as brand new. They would erase records of customers who had credit or were owed money and pocket it. I don't know one employee who had a conscience that stayed around after leaning how things worked around there. a handshake and a kick in the nuts is basically how J-Mac does business. they have since sold to 1-800-radiator,which is basically a franchise with the same business ethics. They will tell you one thing and do another, the smoke and mirrors tactic. J-Mac opened several locations in Utah ,Idaho,Wyoming and a few others after I left. Some of these under other names to hide from territory clauses that were made after selling to competitors. I advise anyone to stay away and find a local specialty shop that cares ,trust me they are out there and worth looking for. State Radiator or Rocky Mountain Radiator are good sources in Utah, and in Idaho Mac's Radiator is good. Also I will mention that J-Mac and 1-800 both import cheap parts from China and only back their "lifetime warranty" if you are lucky. So in finishing all accusations are true and if you don't want poorly manufactured parts sold to you by crooked smiling sales thieves, then look around a bit and don't buy from the guy with the biggest advertisement because they have to pay for it somehow.

A while back they were all over the media for dumping large amounts of antifreeze down thier floor drains. They were fined a large amount of money. But i bet they walked away with a slap. Hence why i dont do business thier no more.
