On 2/8/00 We purchased an engine from the Jasper Engine Store in Columbia, SC. This engine was purchased with a 3 year, 75,000 mile warranty. Parts and Labor. The price was $1662.22. We had it delivered to a Certified Jasper installer so the warranty would be valid even though my husband is a 20 year mechanic and Graduate of Nashville Auto Diesal College and could have done the work himself. The labor was another $904.42

On 4/9/02- 2 years and 23,000 miles into the engine it left my husband on the side of the road. Upon inspection the engine was thought to have no spark. Upon inspection of the spark plugs- The #1 gap was .020 closed. The #2 Electrode was bent to the porcelain. #3 Electrode was bent and the porcelain crushed. #4 Electrode same as #2. Compression Check showed- #1 Cylinder 147 PSI, #2-145 PSI- #3-128 PSI and #4-0 PSI.The installer told Jasper the engine would need to be replaced.

We had to ship the engine to Jasper, Indiana where Jasper would inspect it. They said it showed only signs of detonation and would send us an engine as a customer courtesy gesture but we would be responsible for the labor. We were not happy about that but what choice did we have. The labor was another $824.40 along with the $60.00 towing bills.

5,000 miles into the Customer courtesy engine, that engine too fails! Jasper has refused to refund our $900 payed in labor on the first failure. They have refused to refund our money all together. They have said we could send the second engine to Jasper for inspection! We have refused and we are currently considering legal action against them.

Several business associates of my husbands have now refused to continue to sell Jasper products because they know our claim is legitimate!

Jasper does not honor their warranties and their products should be avoided at all cost.

DETONATION IS CLEARLY STATED AS AN NON-WARRANTABLE CONDITION ON RETURNED UNITS

#2UPDATE Employee

AS A CURRENT EMPLOYEE OF JASPER ENGINES, WHO HAS BEEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE FIELD FOR OVER 12 YEARS AND HAS SEEN QUITE A BIT, I FEEL THAT TO MAKE THE EFFORT TO RUIN THE CREDIBILITY OF A NATIONWIDE CORPORATION IN WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE SUCCEEDED IF THEY CHEATED, SCANDLED, AND "PAID-OFF" CONSUMERS TO KEEP THEIR MOUTHS QUIET (IN GOOD FAITH THAT THEY WOULDN'T TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN) IS A FUTILE ATTEMPT WITH NO BACKING. HOW MANY OF YOU REALLY THINK A DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEE WOULD SAY ANYTHING BUT UNFAVORABLE REMARKS ABOUT THEIR PREVIOUS EMPLOYER, REGARDLESS OF WHOM IT IS? PERSONALLY, I AM OUT ON THE FLOOR DAILY TALKING ABOUT OUR MACHINING PROCESSES AND REGULATIONS, QUALITY CONTROL AND RESEARCH PURPOSES TO ANY ONE WHO IS WILLING TO COME IN AND TOUR OUR FACILITIES. I HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND WHERE THIS COMPANY HAS MADE IMPROVEMENTS ON THE ORIGINAL DESIGN AND THEN THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERS HAVE ADAPTED OUR UPDATES! TO SAY ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE BACKED FACTS HOLDS NO BEARING WHAT SO EVER. ALSO, ALL OUR WARRANTY COVERAGE FLYERS CLEARLY STATE THAT DETONATION, PRE-IGNITION, ETC. ARE NOT COVERED UNDER OUR TERMS. THE REASON BEING THAT THIS IS AN INSTALLER ERROR AND NOT SOMETHING WE CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR. STEVE FROM ZIONSVILLE IS EXACTLY CORRECT IN HIS STATEMENTS. IN ORDER FOR JASPER TO FURTHER LOOK INTO THE ISSUE WE REQUEST TO RECIEVE THE STOCK AND PRODUCTION NUMBER OFF THE UNIT TO HELP RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. OR IF YOU PREFER, CONTACT US DIRECTLY AT 1-800-827-7450 FOR 24 HOUR ASSISTANCE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Problem with Jasper and not refunding labor

#3Consumer Suggestion

It sounds to me like the problem was not with Jasper. It sounds to me like the installer that wanted to replace the engine was at fault. When Jasper said the engine only showed signs of detonation, you should have demanded that the mechanic make good on his misdiagnois. The engine should not have been pulled, and when it was, it should have been put back at no charge *by the mechanic* If he was a certified Jasper technician, then it should have been up to him to straighten out the issue with Jasper, i.e. was the engine bad with no compression, or did it have a detonation problem? If your husband is trained mechanic, I would think he would have understod that. In any case, the labor was un-needed according to Jasper and the Jasper Certified Mechanic should make good, not Jasper.

They are masters of cover-ups and lies.

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

Welcome, there are many of you,..Your experience is repeated everyday. Fact, you bought a REMANUFACTURED engine. Jasper advertises they return their product to original factory specifications (very shaky allowances). But, it is not returned to a new engine status. The heads and block will be milled off. The original heads and other key parts will not remain with the original engine. The cylinders will be bored out. This all changes the compression and fuel burning reaction that happens in your combustion chamber. Most vehicles are computer controlled. The computer doesn't know the engine has been modified. Jasper knows there is a strong potential for detonation problems. Why would anyone give away a FREE engine if they were 100% in the right? They are masters of cover-ups and lies. Their quality records do not refelect the truth. Your only hope is to keep poking at them with responses like you placed here. I've seen them pay off many people to keep them quiet. Write your newspaper and check for other free sources to help protect others.

Tara, I too am having problems with a warranty issue with Jasper. I wish I had known about this website prior to dealing with them. Did you end up taking them to court or was this resolved in anyway? I could really use any help you could provide in dealing with this company. Thanks,
