Deceptive JL Kirk sales techniques

I worked for JL Kirk Associates for 3 days. During that time I was training to be a career specialist. My job was to sell job hunters on the career search services they claimed to offer. I witnessed blatant examples of deception designed to get the job seeker to pay an up front fee of $3,000-$6,000 for questionable services.

Following are some examples of deception that I witnessed during interviews:

>We negotiate the best salary and benefits package for you- Rich Leipzig tells clients that. When I challenged him, he later admitted to me that JL Kirk does not contact the employer on behalf of the client to negotiate. He recanted and said that they work with the client on their negotiation skills.

>We have been in business for 13 years. JL Kirk has been in business for about 1 year. They want to count their total industry experience of 13 years as JL Kirk's length of time in business. Kirk Leipzig, president of JL Kirk, worked for Bernard Haldane (infamous for their deceptive career consulting sales techniques) for many years. The JL Kirk training manual shows the following example:

Client- how long have you been in business?

JL Kirk Response- There are only two reasons why you are asking me this question. Either you don't trust me or my company, which one is it?

>When a client asked, how do your fees work? Rich would answer-We work for the client and the client pays the fee. The job seeker is the client but the answer is intentionally ambiguous to imply that the employer pays the fee.

>I was told to never ask, Do you have any questions?

>I was told to never ask, How did you hear about us? They used misleading on line links to get the job seeker to submit to a brief career assessment after which they were invited to a consultation.

I resigned by phone on my fourth day because I could not participate in the blatant lies and deception that were used to lure vulnerable job seekers.
