Job Corps Job Corps Career Centers Waste to the taxpayers, NOT a good program for kids, sole purpose is for Federal Contractors to make money! All of USA, Nationwide
I was an employee at Shriver Job Corps Center in Devens, Massachusetts and the greed, and illegalities going on at that center were widespread and paramount. I reported Shriver to the OIG for fraud in their actions of retaining students who should have been separated, but were retained because we needed the "numbers" in order not to lose our "top" status. I filed other charges with OIG but, some employees were too afraid to speak when OIG held a full scale investigation of the center. The actual OIG report is in the OIG Report to Congress, September 2009. I am mentioned as the "Hotline Complainant"
I also filed a complaint with the DOL (Wage and Hour division) for Shriver's regular and widespread practice of requiring hourly employees to work through their lunch hour and to not be paid overtime as is required by law. Certain Shriver management routinely coerced, threatened and brow-beat employees into submission with their terror-like tactics. I personally had a staff person tell me he wanted to harm a center manager (which I reported to the State Police and OIG).
I also worked at Kittrell Job Corps Center in North Carolina and experienced some of the same excessive focus on numbers there... Kittrell was later fined hundreds of thousdands of dollars for their wrongdoing see OIG's Report To Congress RE: Kittrell Job Corps.. I am compiling information from people all over the USA to write a book about this wasteful program. I will be setting up a Face Book page for people to contact me with their stories/whether staff or former students... your names will not be used in the book if you ask me not to. I, however must have your correct contact information in order to provide credibility to your complaints about Job Corps.
